How can I get my toilet clean?

We have 3 loos in the house - two are fine with a quick squirt of toilet cleaner but one of them is absolutely revolting. We're in an area with very hard water and masses of discoloured limescale has built up below the water line. It doesn't matter how many chemicals I shove down there (and then feel guilty about) and how much scrubbing, it just won't budge.

Any ideas please?

Spirit of salts. Very strong stuff but sorted out my problem toilet where nothing else did! I got it from our local hardware store. It's amazing - after being left for 20 minutes or so there will be a nasty scum on the surface. Very satisfying job! Careful not to breathe in fumes though.

You need to empty the water out (use a paper cup) then use vacal and leave overnight. Rubber gloves and scrub with a pan scrubber.
Air room well.

Thanks - will try that

i empty water out, apply 10O% lime scale cleaner then scrub with old dishwasher brush. can leave half an hour then flush tho it often works straight away

I spray cilit bang limescale cleaner into the water and leave for a few hours and it does a fantastic job

Citric acid - a tip I picked up off Mumsnet. Pour in a bag of it, leave overnight. Works wonders.

SarahBeeney · 02/09/2017 22:14

Denture cleaning tablets or a whole bottle of full fat coke. Leave over night.

Jamhandprints · 02/09/2017 22:19

We have this. The only thing that worked was to empty out as much water as possible and scrub (gently) with a pumice stone. Easy when you know how.

Alexandra87 · 02/09/2017 22:24

Pour a bottle of coke down it. Leave overnight. Quick scrub with the toilet brush the next day and it will look like new

AJPTaylor · 02/09/2017 22:27

Get a new toilet. Seriously
Put up with this for years at one house. Came to sell. Found a bargain loo at one of the diy sheds for 25 quid and paid about 80to have it fitted . I swore never again

AdoraBell · 02/09/2017 22:32

I use cheap cola, empty water out as above then leave the cola to dissolve limescale and sscrub if needed.

yomellamoHelly · 02/09/2017 22:35

Empty the water out. (I used a plastic bottle cap.) Then squirted on Kilrok - from Amazon - (generously). Left for 10 and scrubbed with a brush. Repeated, and so forth. Was all gone entirely after 4th go. Now have beautiful shiny loo.

coraliss · 02/09/2017 22:42

I use these in my loo, although I live in a medium hard water area, they have reduced the limescale a lot since I put them in my cistern. I would recommend a thorough descale then pop 2 of these in the cistern .... they also do a washer ball, I've found that my washing comes out softer....

Amazon / eBay sell them - www.ecozone.com/product/magnoloo/

Harpic in the black bottle, amazing stuff you can see the limescale lifting off leave overnight & quick scrub with dreaded loo brush.

Gooseysgirl · 03/09/2017 00:03

Yes, Harpic in the black bottle - fab stuff!

Ohyesiam · 03/09/2017 12:52

Two denture cleaning tablets, leave over night. No scrubbing or scooping

noitsnotteatimeyet · 05/09/2017 14:50

Sadly denture tablets made no difference whatsoever..,, going to try one of the other suggestions next ...
