Chucking out old toiletries and make up

I am attempting a declutter and first on the list is toiletries and make up. I know nail varnish has to go to the tip for disposal, but what do I do with things like bottles of bubble bath and hair products? How do you dispose of the contents? I'm assuming I could empty bottles of bubble bath down the plughole but we have a LOT. Grin Can't re-gift and they're no use for charity shop or local women's refuge.

Why don't you just use them Hmm

FartSmeller · 26/08/2017 20:38

Yeah if just use them tbh. Be very generous with how much you chuck in the bath

MrsLJ2014 · 26/08/2017 20:40

You could donate them to a food bank if they haven't been opened? My local one was very grateful when I did this.

usernameinfinito · 26/08/2017 20:47

You could use the bubble bath as hand wash? There is a thread in Style and Beauty about beauty hoarding ashamed of my beauty hoard and it helps you use the things you have.

Allyg1185 · 26/08/2017 20:48

Just use them. I haven't bought shower products in a long time because I've been using up all the presents etc

But then I am the type to cut the top off bottles to make sure i get every last drop out Grin

I emptied all mine down the loo. But that didnt include any bubble bath.

KittyB52 · 26/08/2017 21:07

We are renting at the moment and our bath takes aaaages to fill, plus I prefer showers. I haven't bought the bubble bath, it's all been given to me - I must stink! Grin.

Will have a look at that thread username - thanks.

Didn't know food banks would take toiletries - will look into that too.

Id use bubble bath as shower gel or handwash anyway. They are basically the same products.

e1y1 · 27/08/2017 01:27

I tend to "try" and repurpose stuff, eg bubble bath would either be handwash, or swish round toilet and use the toilet brush and use it for a couple of cleans of the toilet.

If can't repurpose or if desperate to get rid (eg space or recycling bin is due to be emptied) will just pour down the toilet and flush.

Of course, YY to things like nail polish going to tip.

I have the same problem but can't use it as all family have sensitive skin and will react to the scented gift sets. Mine are only slightly tatty from sitting in a box since Christmas so I am hoping the charity shop will take them.

IDoDaChaCha · 01/09/2017 15:37

MoyraLanterns is right: bubble bath and shower gel are both designed to be pH friendly to skin. I use both as hand wash by refilling a pump dispenser too. I've even used shower gel to clean dishes (in a self catering holiday rental abroad where I forgot to bring washing up liquid!) as they're designed to clean grease, oils and sweat from bodies so they can handle dishes! I ignore the age of a product and go by look and smell. I have an ancient bottle of conditioner given to me by an elderly aunt that I'm planning to use when current conditioner runs out. If I have tiny/travel size bottles I decant them into larger dispensers. Both hand cream and hand wash dispensers in my bathroom are full of tiny bottles decanted through a funnel (just leave to drip while you do something else). If you really don't want these products then give them away on freecycle- I'd ask for them Grin

I also use shower gel/bubble bath on an old bath lily to clean the bathroom sink. Comes up shiny and smells nice afterwards.

PuffinNose · 01/09/2017 17:41

Clean the floors with them. Make sure you rinse well.
Use as a toilet cleaner.
Use to clean the inside of cupboards.
Use to blow bubbles with children. Or there's something where you add ink to bubnles to marble paper?
And as others have said, things designed to wash are all pretty much the same so use bubble bath as hand wash etc.

There is a lively section in one of Bill Bryson's books. He basically uses bubble bath, shampoo, body lotion in
The shower as a body wash....he explains it's all basically made from
Same stuff Smile
