Green and Black Fluffy Mould - help!

Huffletuff · 26/08/2017 15:43

My house seems to be full of the stuff. I dropped a cushion down the side of the bed last week, pulled it out and it's covered with green, fluffy mould. All down the back and side of the bed are mouldy and it smells, despite scrubbing with bleach and zoflora a few weeks ago.

The bathroom has black mould growing up the walls and there is green and black mould behind everything in DS' room and inside our build in bedroom cupboard.

What can I do? We don't seem to have a particularly bad condensation problem! Drying laundry is done in the tumble dryer which is a condenser and in the outhouse so not connected to the house.

All the window vents are open, but we can't open the windows as we have house cats.

Is this damaging to our health?! This is my main concern as I have diagnosed severe health anxiety.

I'm in social housing and have a low budget. Is this something I can try and sort myself (can't do much as am disabled) or should I contact the council?

Thanks!

There must be some other issues causing the mould to that extent. Maybe gutter/ roof? Not opening the windows won't help though. I'm sure there are products that allow you to open windows while keeping cats in

yes to checking for leaks (pipes/gutters)
opening windows every day for 10 min as far as they go.
use extractor fans in kitchen/bathroom. keep kitchen/bathroom doors closed& windows open when/after cooking and showering.
get a hydrometer to measure moisture in the air. get a dehumidifier if it doesn't go below 70%.

Yes, window is open after a shower with bathroom door closed. No to lids on pans though. I don't tend to use the extractor fan either but will start.

I've shut the cats in a room and opened all the upstairs windows. I'll try to do this daily then!

No leaks as far as I can see.

Yes, make sure you get a dehumidifier! We had a massive mould problem and it's all gone now 23 have it on all the time and it whirs into action when the air gets too moist.

VodkaRevelation · 26/08/2017 17:57

We not 23. Not sure where that came from!

Huffletuff · 26/08/2017 18:11

Thanks @Vodka - could you recommend one please?
