Grrr - cats!

We have a problem with random cats coming in the house. I'm getting a special cat flap (one that works with the chips! Very cool!) but in the interim, is there any way to get rid of the smell? I haven't found any bad hot spots, I think it's more of a general 'spray' issue.

Is it just a question of open windows? Or there any tricks? (not scary air freshener, although I could do insense I guess ...)

I stick some of that Zoflora disinfectant in a load of water and spray it about the place. Tis a gaggingly sweet smell, but better than cat pee.

Dilute some biological washin powder and spray liberally around-the enzymes in it work pretty well on cat piss.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/03/2007 15:18

Bio washing powder I can cope with. I'll have a sniff around and see if I can find out where the problem is.

Can I spray that on carpet, walls, whatever, without harming them?

I don't know what Zoflora disinfectant is, but it sounds a bit scary, tbh.

Oh, I think they're spraying outside the back door, too.

Second biological washing powder, works a treat. In fact it works so well, I now use it to clean the back yard, too!

NotQuiteCockney · 30/03/2007 16:13

Thanks

glassslipper · 30/03/2007 21:45

no hints to clean the smell but if you see the cats spray them with water as a deterrent

sauce · 30/03/2007 21:47

Oh good. Finally a thread against cats. How can you keep the little bggers from pissing & shtting in the garden?

glassslipper · 30/03/2007 21:50

again, spray them every time you see them. they hate it

sauce · 30/03/2007 21:52

we've tried that glasslipper but they scuttle off by the time we get the door open. Thinking of buying one of those high-frequency noise things. I'm that desperate.

glassslipper · 30/03/2007 21:55

lol. do it through the window.

sauce · 30/03/2007 21:59

I fantasise I'm sitting in a rockingchair with a rifle over my lap, sucking on corncob pipe & jus' bidin' ma time, bidin' ma time...

sauce · 30/03/2007 22:00

fantasize?

fanta?

whatever.

Apparently grapefruit skin halves in the garden deters cats from wazzing there.

NotQuiteCockney · 01/04/2007 06:51

I've heard you can buy lion poo, which keeps normal-sized cats away? Not sure it's a very tempting option, though.

Our garden STINKS of cat wee - it's really horrible. Think I might give the grapefruit a try (not in a hurry to buy lion poo yet).

Hate to put a downer on the "chip" cat flap NQC but be wary. We had one of those and it is only ok if the other cats dont have one on their collar too. One chip opens all sadly.Unless they have upgraded them since we got ours, it was a while ago. Best to check when you buy.
