How do I get rid of rotten fish smell from Kenwood Food Processor?

Got an inexpensive Kenwood food processor in the sales a couple of weeks ago.

Opened the box to inspect it and then put it in the pantry till I needed it. Over the next couple of weeks a smell of gone off fish filled the pantry.

We have cats so I wondered if one had got in and pierced a cat food pouch but after smelling every single one of them, decided that wasn't the problem. I then spent ages smelling every bloody stockpot, dried mushrooms, condiment jars trying to locate the smell.

Well last night I found it! I opened the box of the food processor and this awful smell filled the kitchen. We have had to bin the box but it's actually the plastic on the food processor that smells.

We've tried anti-bacterial spray / wipes, white vinegar but still the smell remains. The food processor is currently residing in a spare room we don't use until I next need it but this can't be right?

Has anyone else come across this on plastic and if so, how on earth did you get rid of it (please tell me you did!)

No idea but I'd return it to store and see what they advise.

A fishy smell can be a sign of dodgy electrics, have you actually used it?

I don't have any of the packaging left (bins emptied today) but I do have the receipt still.

Used it for the first time yesterday and smell has been without powering it up.

My last ones motor burnt out and it doesn't smell like that. It smells like 7 day old fish 😖

If you've got the receipt definitely return it.

You don't need the packaging to return something which is faulty - don't let anyone tell you you do!

I have had a similar experience with boxed goods. I think it may come from the glue that is used. I find soaking everything (that can be soaked) in Milton works well.

Unfortunately can't soak it as it's the main part with the motor in it. I'll pop it back to Sainsburys Smile
