I need a cordless vacuum, dyson?

I have a very old dyson DC05 absolute. It is pretty knackered, and isn't long for this world. We have no space and I'd like to replace it with a compact cordless vacuum so it can stand near the washing machine (futility room, but too tiny to store the bigger vacuum, which currently resides in the smaller than small hallway and trips us all up several times a day) when not in use.

The dyson v6 is a reasonable price at about £200. Are there any other decent candidates for a similar spend? As long as it functions better than the one we have now it's going to be a win.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

Just bought the gtech air ram, absolutely love it. Really long battery life, lovely to hoover with. Have a little Hoover already for the stairs etc and clearing up crumbs after dc dinner, so not sure if the gtech would work if I didn't have that as it would be a bit difficult to do stairs with otherwise. You can get the gtech little Hoover (to do stairs with etc) on a package deal with the big one for £300. The big one by itself is £200.

I tried a GTech Air Ram (I think it was called). Despite amazing reviews everywhere, it pushed the fluff etc around in front of it and never rammed anything into the nuggets of "dust" as it was supposed to do. Never get one of these. Mine went back. Dyson does actually work! Big plus!

I'm not overly impressed with my cordless animal Dyson, I always have to use the 'max power' otherwise I'm lucky if it picks up a rice crispy, and using the higher power means I don't even get a full 10 minutes out of it! I thought it was faulty but many reviews say the same. It is very handy to whip out now and again but I can't even get my hall and kitchen done at the same time, and it's a bugger when people forget to put it back on charge!!

I've heard very good things about the vax slim cordless vacuum and that's only around £100.

Hate my cordless dyson, battery runs out really quickly and even on max hasn`t enough suction power. I am on the hunt for a replacement and have heard Shark are good

I love my cordless Dyson V6 animal, I vacuum everyday now as it's so quick to get out and it's great for little cleanups (crumbs around the table etc). The only thing I don't like about it is emptying it - the fluff gets a bit stuck inside and I have to pull it out with my hands which is a bit yucky but not a major issue.

Bubbles do you think yours might have been faulty? My gtech picks up everything including bits of paper and cardboard, feathers and other bits of craft detritus, all the crumbs and dust I can see and it does compress it in the dust container.

We've got a cordless Vax. I got it in the sale at Christmas, it was only about £80 and it's brilliant for a quick whip round. It's not really good enough for a thorough clean. It was better than our old Dyson though.

If you don't have to have cordless I'd look at the Shark stick hoovers. I know people who have these and rave about them. We have replaced our upright Dyson with a Shark LiftAway and the Dyson can't compete.

Im following this with interest! Currently have a Hetty (pink version of Henry) Hoover and have had her for 9 years. Amazing hoover but I live in a house made of stairs and a back problem means lugging a heavy hoover about every day isn't no longer possible. Looking for a lightweight, cordless vaccum for the twice daily once-overs required with a toddler but it has to be able to do stairs!

sweetbabboo · 16/08/2017 20:48

I have a beloved Hetty for the main hoovering up and a cordless Dyson for quick jobs. It is pretty good, suction is definitely the best I've experienced for a cordless but I do find that it gets incredibly stinky. I have to strip it down about once a month/6 wks and clean the bin, filter and pipes or it absolutely honks of wet dog. I haven't got a dog Hmm
I give the filter a spray with diluted Zoflora now and then which makes it smell nice but I don't have to do any of this faffing with Hetty. Dread to think what nastiness is currently living in that bag!

I'd highly recommend the gtech air ram. It's the best hoover I've had. I got it for £200 from Costco but wish I'd went directly to gtech to get the offer with the handheld vacuum included for £300. However I will be splurging on the handheld one soon!
