Mystery flies

We just got back from a two week holiday to find a large number of dead flies in the house. We closed the bedroom doors upstairs but in each room there were around 10 dead flies. In the open plan kitchen dining room there were another 10 and about 5 in the bathroom.

The house doesn't smell and there was no food left out. We got rid of them all but we are still seeing some flying around.

Any ideas of what we can do? As the bedroom doors were shut does this mean there were eggs in each room?

TIA

When this happened to us it turned out to be caused by a dead bird in the chimney.

We got a chimney cap to prevent a reoccurrence.

Could also be cluster flies, are they slightly lighter in colour than normal flies and kind of bumbly? Cluster flies try to find vacant properties around this time of year and generally when they find one they come back yearly, unless treated they will multiply!!

We found someone who worked with the council to come and treat our house, a quick google will find you someone!

Thank you - they are definitely cluster flies. They have also left a horrible sticky mess all over the windows which is proving hard to remove.

That's the pheromones I think so other cluster flies know where to go!! The house will need to be fumigated and that will also leave residue on the window you mustn't rub that off straight away - as it will stop them coming back! Good luck!
