These keep cropping up in ours, several a day! I cant seem to find them on any identification sheets. Any ideas anyone?

I'm sure someone else had a thread about these

MattBerrysHair · 09/08/2017 22:04

I think it's a vine weevil.

alwaysme22 · 09/08/2017 22:05

Is it a Vine Weevil. Is that photo indoors or outdoors? Either way if I am right, they lay eggs in the soil. The grubs that hatch eat the roots and can kill the plants especially if growing in pots. Nasty things and hell to get rid of :(

Juno2002 · 09/08/2017 22:08

It's a ground beetle - probably a type of carabus Smile

Juno2002 · 09/08/2017 22:10

I take it back, yes could be a vine weevil!

FrogsLegs31 · 09/08/2017 22:10

Definitely a weevil. Ground beetles are glossy and predictably found on the ground and usually hiding rather than climbing the walls Grin

Its inside they are all over the inside walls of the house, i looked up vine weevils and it says they have orange bits bit this its just a light brown colour with lighter flecks through it

I'd still say that's a vine weevil. Your photo shows flecks on the body. When we were infested I can't say I noticed orange but that could have been my eyesight!

Do you have any houseplants indoors, that's how I managed to start our infestation. If so look out for pieces eaten from edges of leaves.

alexpie · 10/08/2017 13:24

No house plants or anything like that, no plants anywhere near entrances or anything

Do you have any feed for animals such as gerbils or hamsters? There is a grain weevil that looks very similar.

alwaysme22 · 10/08/2017 16:22

That is strange then, maybe it is a different sort of weevil.

One clue are you seeing many in daylight? Vine weevils hide away in the day and mostly come out after dark. For instance I might see one or two in the conservatory during the day, but go out there after dark and put the light on. Vine weevil central, loads of them climbing up the walls!

alexpie · 10/08/2017 18:02

No grains or anything.
It doesnt matter what time, day or night they are crawling the walls, its so odd

Yes, I think there was another thread about them a few days ago. They lay eggs in soil so might be getting in easily from outside once hatched, it is the season for them now.

They are harmless, except to plants.
