Please help me, ants have taken my bedroom

About three to four days ago I was sitting on my bed and I saw what I thought was an earwig crawling up the wall, got rid. I sat back down to see at least 30 on my curtain. I panicked and threw them all out of the window, lifted up the washing basket under the curtain and there were HUNDREDS of normal ants. Now I'm thinking the big things might have been flying ants? They seem to be all living together Sad

I've vacated my bedroom, currently sleeping on an air bed in the sitting room but can't do this forever. I've put Nippon traps down and sprayed the whole room including under the carpet with an anti flea spray which also works on ants

They are not going away! Please someone come and tell me I will be fine, I can't move!

That's put me right off my crumpet...

We're just moving this to housekeeping for usernamenottaken.

Hope you get some good advice, OP!

You need ant powder.
We had a flying ant infestation a couple of weeks ago. Scared the shit out of the child and gave me the willies.
The powder kills them and continues to work for a long time. Puff it in the room and outside.

SleepFreeZone · 10/08/2017 09:27

Talc works just as well

Manupprincess · 10/08/2017 09:31

Oatmeal or ground up porridge oats is the best way - recommended by gardeners world no less. We tried strong and powder, bleach, hot water and they kept coming back but the oats worked. They take it deep into the nest, eat it and it swells their stomach. You may need to do it a couple of times to get all the newly hatched ants.

Is there any food in there they could be interested in? Ants usually live underground- can you see are they coming in through a crack or hole in the floor or wall? If you see where they are coming in you can seal it off.

usernamenottaken · 10/08/2017 11:10

No food in the bedroom at all and I've hoovered and bleached to oblivion

@Silverstreaks we have dogs so we can't have powder down. I don't think it's safe?

We have a dog too. It's been fine.

Willowkins · 10/08/2017 11:20

You can get through this. In the meantime, Raid Ant and Cockroach spray works quickly.

SwedishEdith · 10/08/2017 11:25

Our holiday house was invaded with them on our first day. Opened up a baguette and it was full of them.

Sgtmajormummy · 10/08/2017 11:40

You need to find out their final destination because they communicate a good source of food and all start travelling to and fro. Intelligent little buggers...
So eliminate the food source then find how they're getting into your house. Stop up the hole with BluTack or Plasticine and then blast the remaining ants with whatever spray you've got.

That's the way I did it when I lived in a ground floor flat with a lovely garden and they found their way into my paper packet of sugar. Glass jars after that!

This is what you want. The link's from Amazon, but you can get it in B&Q as well.

My mum had ants in her kitchen - they were everywhere - in cupboards, on the work surfaces etc. We couldn't tell where they were coming in from. We put both bait stations outside (one by the sink area and one by the back door) and never saw another ant - it worked within hours. You could put one in your bedroom.

notinyournelly · 10/08/2017 11:50

I used that Ant stop bait station too. Haven't seen any for two years. But my ants where outside, hope you get it sorted soon. I'd be freaked too.

usernamenottaken · 10/08/2017 13:13

Update: I've just checked the bedroom and the small normal ants seem to have gone (used Nippon traps)

But the big flying ones are still in abundance 😭

You will have to go for it with some spray, like Raid, otherwise they will keep coming.

gamerchick · 10/08/2017 13:20

Sounds like they've got a bit lost escorting the young queens out. They haven't done it on purpose.

Maybe suck up some ant powder with the hoover and Hoover them up if there is a lot?

gamerchick · 10/08/2017 13:21

Really if you can find the hole they've used and plug it up they'll find another way out.
