Is there such a thing as a quiet tumble dryer?

Just that really. Really want a dryer but have an open plan kitchen/living room and worried about the noise.

Is yours quiet? Would you recommend it?

Are particular brands a good bet?

What do I need to watch for if I want a quiet one?

Is the db rating a good indicator?

I'd have to stack them, does that make a difference?

Many thanks!

Mumsnet did a Miele trial a couple of years back and i was lucky enough to be one of the testers. Its fairly quiet (one of the quietest on the market i believe, i haven't had another one to compare it with though. It is brilliant and clever. It works out how long to dry things for and the fluff removal system is equally amazing and grotesque. Brilliant for any pet hair left post wash.

We've now also needed to replace our washing machine so went Miele too.

They do a stacking kit so you can bolt them together safely as a tower.

The price tag at £1100 is not the cheapest on the market by some way but being very energy efficient and with a very long warranty its worth calculating the whole life cost of the dryer if in frequent use (mine is) and fuel costs are not to be sniffed at in less efficient models.

Ouch Grin so pricy! I do yearn tho, to try a Miele!

Think I'm just going to heave to trawl reevoo or similar and see what people are saying...

The basic vented Hotpoint & Indesit dryers are very quiet and dry quickly too

Are they? I need a condenser tho, no room for a vent...

We have a beko heat pump one and I don't find it that noisy. It never bothers me anyway. It's the only tumble dryer I've ever had though so nothing to compare it to!

The bekos seem to get good reviews actually. Good to know you don't find it noisy.

My John Lewis (rebadged AEG) heat pump definitely doesn't fit the bill. Even once condenser has settled, it's loud!
