I use the oven pride bags. Can often find cheaper versions in home bargains, b&m. Takes all of the work out of it, pop them in overnight and rinse them in the morning.

Oven pride, it comes with a bag. You put the racks on the bag, tip the stuff in & just leave it for a few hours. It's like magic!

Fozzleyplum · 07/08/2017 09:47

Brillo pads (the old fashioned soapy ones), or the oven cleaner with bags to put the racks in.

echt · 07/08/2017 13:25

Put oven trays in bin bags with ammonia ( cheap as chips at hardware/B&Q. Knot at the neck and leave overnight outside.

It's the fumes that do the work, not immersion, in liquid.

A gentle scrub will bring it up like new. Years of shite will require more elbow grease but will still work.

I use oven pride. You can have a clean oven overnight. You can put the racks in the bags and leave them overnight and wash it off with warm soapy water. Put some of the solution to the oven and apply with a sponge or cloth and sponge it off with hot soapy water.

Stick in dishwasher. Whip out when wash still going (so they're hot),scrub with wire scourer. It all falls off.

EvansOvalPies · 07/08/2017 16:54

Run a bath full of very hot, soapy water with a laundry detergent tablet, or a dishwasher tablet to dissolve. Leave to soak for about 30-45 mins.

Then all you need to do is give a wipe over with wire wool and they come out gleaming.

No need for all those messy bags at all.

BillywigSting · 07/08/2017 16:58

I get dp to do it with oven pride spray when I'm not around so the fumes don't give me an asthma attack and kill me.

Otherwise I just let them get minty. No food goes on them and nothing could survive oven temperatures surely?

greendale17 · 07/08/2017 16:59

Ovenmate works a treat

Gotanewusernamenow · 07/08/2017 17:00

The pound shops sell the oven cleaner ( same as oven pride)
Still does the job.

mando12345 · 07/08/2017 17:02

Mine come clean in the dishwasher, the most intensive cycle and fairy platinum dishwasher tabs. And mine are proper dirty!!

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 07/08/2017 21:35

Soak in soda crystals and very hot water and scrub with a very coarse scourer

AllToadsLeadToHome · 08/08/2017 01:06

I have used the bags but must have done something wrong because the gunk ended up all over the place.

These days I use either a soda crystal spray and leave it on or HG BBQ spray depending on what they are made of. Spray it, leave it, scrub a bit with a non-stick scourer (or a stronger one if I have one) and rinse it off.

Lookingtothehighlands · 11/08/2017 06:22

Dishwasher here too, with a bit of a scrub way through if really mucky.

Wait4nothing · 11/08/2017 06:25

Another oven pride user - did it yesterday - it also cleans the inside - my oven window is gleaming proud

Meowstro · 11/08/2017 06:28

Either soda crystals with a bit of vinegar soaked overnight or astonish oven and cookware cleaner. Soda crystals are good for a lot though, unless you have burnt on grease that does the job.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 11/08/2017 06:33

Like a pp - run a very hot bath, add biological detergent and soak for as long as it takes for all the dirt and gunk to literally drop off. No mess, no chemical smells, no scrubbing. And like a pp says, they sparkle.

In the past I have been tempted to use the bags but so many people have found that their tear / get pierced that it's put me off.
