Dead bird in the cellar, what should I do? Will it smell?

So a fledgling sparrow managed to get into my cellar (we found where it got in and will be blocking it up asap). After 8 hours pulling the place apart trying to rescue the poor thing, its all gone quiet and I still can't find it :(

We've literally tore the place apart looking for it (I mean literally, my husband even ripped down the bloody insulation!).

I think it's probably dead, so I've no chance of getting it out now. I'm currently 6 months pregnant and the last thing I need is it stinking the place out.

Will something as small as a fledgling sparrow smell terrible? If so any advice on how long it'll stink for, and what I can use to neutralise the odour?

Ugh, I'm knackered now, what a day!

I don't know about a smell but I'd be more worried about getting maggots and bluebottles , this is what happened when we had a dead mouse.

Yes, it will honk! Any deliquescing animal stinks, sorry OP, if you can't find it expect a really unpleasant smell which will last for a few days. On the other hand, if you can't find it, maybe it did manage to exscape?
