I've always just stuck them in the washing machine in a pillowcase. Seems to do the job.

Magic erasers work well.

NoddysBell · 28/07/2017 20:53

Those magic eraser sponges are brilliant for that.

If you mean the rubber trim then nail varnish remover. It is amazingly good.

I put mine in an old pillowcase and put them in the washing machine with my normal detergent. I leave them to air dry stuffed with crumpled up paper. They come up looking brand new - the canvas and the rubber is equally spotless.

Great minds, NinaMarieP!

I put canvass ones in the washer too and the come out like new, but for my leather ones I use a baby wipe on the toe and an old tooth brush with Ciff on for round the sole.

I had a red pair that I adored as a teenager that ended absolutely manky because I them so much.
I ended up scrubbing the rubber bits down with industrial pvc cleaner and a tooth brush and then sticking them in the 'intensive' wash on the washing machine that lasted 3 hours.
I doubt that's much help but it did make them look brand new.

On a probably more helpful note wipe them down with a baby wipe every so often and that should do them.
I've also been told that toothpaste works since it's slightly abrasive but I've never tried it.

I use cotton wool and hand sanitizer. Works quite well. Can use it for scuffs on patent shoes as well.

MILdesperandum · 28/07/2017 21:41

toothbrush and bog standard white toothpaste (the white stuff - not gel)

Orangedaisy · 28/07/2017 21:43

Second cif. Scrub with it using a toothbrush, brief rinse under tap then bung in the washing machine.
