Putting saucepans in dishwasher

Saucepans/DH driving me mad. DH likes to buy decent-ish non-stick saucepans and declare them unsuitable for the dishwasher. However he is not really prepared to do any washing up himself - he'll go in the kitchen, faff around, watch sports on his tablet, supposedly while he's 'cleaning the kitchen', then wander back saying he'd done the dishwasher and now he's tired so he's not bothering with the washing up. Drives me nuts as I always end up washing up. Aibu to stick the bloody pans in the dishwasher when he's gone to work? Really couldn't give a monkeys if they get a bit ruined at this point. If I was single I wouldn't buy anything that couldn't go in the dishwasher. I realise this is probably a DH problem, not a saucepan problem. Will they be ruined?

Yes put them in the top rack.
Next time tell him he's in charge of the saucepans and he can either wash them by hand or put them in the top of the dishwasher.

RNBrie · 28/07/2017 08:48

I'd put them in the dishwasher. We have just decided to get decent pans and wash them up but it was a joint decision so we're both doing our fair share.

If they are decent non-stick pans then washing them up really isn't much of an issue, it doesn't take long.

But if he's basically just leaving you to do the cleaning up then do it however you like. So pans in the dishwasher of that's what suits you.

LoniceraJaponica · 28/07/2017 08:51

I buy decent pans that are unsuitable for the dishwasher, but both of us are equally happy to handwash them. I usually cook and OH usually washes up though, so it isn't a big deal.

BigGreenOlives · 28/07/2017 08:52

Why don't you only use a non-stick pan when you have to? Normal pans are fine for pasta, potatoes, vegetables etc.

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/07/2017 08:54

This is news to me. Non stick pans don't go in the dishwasher!

I have always put them in. Didn't realise you couldn't

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 09:00

We do have a couple of normal not non-stick ones so I use those whenever possible!

I'm going to put them in. He'll never know Grin.

He's a pain in the bum. It's a legacy of the fact that he used to do ALL the cooking for various reasons (I worked long hours, then later pregnancy/newborn etc) and the deal always was that if one cooks then the other cleans.

But nowadays I do a lot more cooking as I work part time and get home first - however me cleaning the kitchen still seems to be the default and I have to specially request that he do it! And even then he doesn't always manage it! Grrr...

who made him King of The Fucking World??....I know it is a bit OTT but you have bigger issues than non stick pans here!

I would laugh in his stupid face if he told me what I could and could not put in the dishwasher!

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 09:33

Calm down Statueinthesky, it's not that serious, just a minor niggle in an otherwise happy household...

Migraleve · 28/07/2017 09:34

I put my non sticks in the dishwasher

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/07/2017 09:35

We put all our pans in the dishwasher. We only have no -stick wok / frying pan and the dishwasher eats the aluminium before any damage is done to the teflon...

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 09:39

So glad to see some of you put your non sticks in with seemingly no adverse effects!

OP posts:
TonicAndTonic · 28/07/2017 09:42

We put everything in the dishwasher, regardless of whether it says it's suitable! Not had any disasters yet. We have hard anodised non stick pans, they seem to survive pretty well.

Ulysses · 28/07/2017 09:45

I've got Meyer anodised pans that have suffered in the dishwasher to be fair. The grey outside has went white and the coating has been damaged too so that the smallest one is no longer good for cooking sauces in.

lemonzest123 · 28/07/2017 10:02

Put them in his side of the bed. One of my housemates wouldn't wash up and this worked a treat -once the swearing stopped-

lemonzest123 · 28/07/2017 10:03

Oh no, strikeout fail! Hanging head in shame.

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 10:04

Hahaha lemonzest Grin trouble is he probably wouldn't notice/care!

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 10:05

Oh! IN his bed! Thought you said at the side. Pretty sure he'll notice them IN his bed Grin

Don't wait for him to go to work.
They go in the dishwasher or he washes them.
If it's a problem for preparing a meal, then he still washes them or no meal.
Easy.

Good quality pans should be able to be put in the dishwasher. What's the point if not?

LoniceraJaponica · 28/07/2017 12:10

"This is news to me. Non stick pans don't go in the dishwasher!

You can, but they don't last as long. I must admit that I am rather precious about my kitchen equipment and never put kitchen knives or wine glasses in the dishwasher either, but they last forever.

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 28/07/2017 12:19

You can now buy dishwasher safe non stick pans - oven trays etc..
so its no longer a non stick = handwash argument..
therefore stick them in the dishwasher and replace them with ones designed to withstand the caustic washing when they are fucked.
win win

LoniceraJaponica · 28/07/2017 13:56

Which brand?

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 14:06

Ooh 665 that sounds good

Rafflesway · 28/07/2017 15:46

I've been putting non stick frying pans, saucepans etc in the dishwasher for over 30 years.

Never had a rust or coating issue yet!

thepatchworkcat · 28/07/2017 17:34

Marvellous news Raffles! Mine have been in today and come out lovely, which coupled with my smug feeling of not having washed them is a win Grin
