We've moved into a Cornish cottage that is over 4 floors essentially. We have a bad damp problem on the bottom 2 floors and there is a minor problem on the other two.

We will also have to dry washing inside on rainy days obviously.

I've seen this one on Amazon and the reviews look ok but any other reccomendations would be good.

We had 2x Delonghi Dem10 dehumidifiers on the go during the day when we lived in a damp basement flat. I emptied them daily, so there was clearly a lot of moisture in the air, but the flat never smelt damp, nor our clothes and it kept the mould on walls at bay.

We dried all our clothes inside as we had no outdoor space, and they dried fine near a radiator in winter, and in an aired room in the summer.

I couldn't tell you how much they cost to run though as we had an awesome landlord who paid our electric bill for the duration of our tenancy (3 years) because of this issue!

We have had a delonghi dem10 for nearly 4 years and I Love it!! Grin

Bought it originally when living in a v.Damp rental to minimise damp and mould growth but have since moved into a modern apartment (thank God) where we use it to dry our clothes in rubbish weather... It's amazing! Dries a full airer load over night in a smallish room and costs about 3p an hour...

They can be pricey but well worth it for the savings (waaay less than a tumble dryer) and obviously priceless if used for minimising damp as long term damp can really affect your health. We actually got ours refurbished on eBay for just over half the original retail price and the company we used gave it a 12 month warranty so very reassuring. Smile

Missed the bit where you said you were in Cornwall - us too!! They should come as standard with all older Cornish properties, they are Definitely essential!

When we had damp (caused by leaky gutter on next door's roof) which had saturated 18" thick stone walls we bought a middle of the range one by Ebac. Was really good, mind you the damp surveyor we got out said it would take approx 1 month per inch of stone to dry out once the leak was repaired. So you have to just leave it on auto and be patient.

In a different house now without any damp issues, and I bought a small Ecoair one (still about £130-150) for clothes drying in the spare room as per p.p.

Wouldn't be without one...

Thanks everyone.Given me some more to lok at. I didn't think of Ebay so will have a mooch.

LittleWingSoul wish my Landlord was so nice.

Frustrated much as I adore living here the damp is a killer and I agree. Especially on a cold and damp day like today.

He truly was one of a kind. Sorry you're having these issues! But as pp said her dem10 cost 3p an hour to run so might be a good'un. Good luck!

Just to let you know we got the dehumidifier and it is on 24/7 . It is currently having to be emptied 3 times in a 24 hour period. I knew there was a lot of water in the air but that is scary.

I am also looking for a dehumidifier so will follow this thread if that's ok?
Is the Delonghi Dem10 dehumidifier quite small?
