Where do you put 'outbound' items e.g. presents, things you've borrowed, library books to return etc?

Just wondering if anyone has a better system than shoving them on the worktop?! I currently have...

-two wrapped children's birthday presents waiting to go to birthday parties at the weekend
-a bottle of champagne and card for my friend who I'm seeing on Fri
-an insulated cool bag to return to my MIL next time I visit her
-a bag of empty jam jars and books I'm lending to my parents
-a beaker that my friend's DD left here, waiting to be returned
-a pile of library books waiting to be returned

...all sitting on my kitchen worktop and they're really irritating me! I need them visible so I remember to take them, but can't put them in the car as, apart from the champagne, I don't know yet which car I'll be in on any given day.

Where do you kep things that are on their way out of your house?

Kitchen worktop next to my car keys. Very irritating and annoying location, but I've been doing it for over 2 decades!

MatchsticksForMyEyes · 25/07/2017 20:36

By the front door so I'd have to step over them!

FishWifeInAnotherLife · 25/07/2017 21:04

Worktop in utility room, which is right next to the back door

By the front door

Sorry not that organised. I would be getting the presents the morning of the party along with champagne. The bag and library books would be in the boot of the car for a few months until i remebered to give them back.

I have that stuff in a rack in my hall. Rack also contains school bags, PE bags and swimming kit bags. All stuff that must come and go is not allowed further into the house. Or it will be lost!

pineapplesarentforpizza · 25/07/2017 21:21

Ooh now you're talking elevenclips Can you link to said rack? I'll definitely need a better system once DD is at school (a few years away yet but you can never be too organised!!)

On the worktop here too. Which happens to be right by the back door (only one we use).

I have a storage stool in the hall - got it in Argos (ottoman I think it is called)

Matalan have lovely wicker ones at the moment

I also have wicker basket on top of the fridge that I keep that type of thing on

It's only an IKEA trofast set up, so not very attractive Grin but you can put different bits of it together to make it fit the space you have. You can use the tray bins for items like gloves hats etc and leave it as just shelves for bags or items you want visible. You can get them in different orientations depending on whether the space is shallow or deep.

Thanks elevenclips we'll have a couple of spare Trofast once we've redone DDs bedroom, I was going to freecycle them but might turn one of them into storage for us
