Skip or Hippo Bag?

We have decided to hire a skip later this year but people have also mentioned hippo bags. We do have massive bits of furniture to get rid of so would that mean a skip was better?

Does anyone have any experience of using either, it is a totally new thing to us!

Thanks :)

Can you not donate the furniture to charity? They will usually come and collect it from you with no charge.

My friend just got two hippo bags and as they were about to fill them, they saw the terms are only 25% heavy things allowed. In the end a skip was cheaper as they could load as much as they wanted in to it. without worrying about the weight!

Thank you both. Interesting about weight. I'll definitely look into the rules closely. Is it pretty much anything goes with a skip?

Nothing is good enough for charity, it's too damaged/broken sadly :(

If you were able to do several trips, do you have a local tip? You can load the car up and get rid for free.

Nope no car or access to others - dad used to do the odd tip run for us bless him but he can't drive anymore. We've been doing charity shop runs on the bus (very gradually)

We had a clearabee bag recently as their vehicles need less space than a skip lorry and we live in a badly designed cul de sac. They were ok, but had some annoying weigh and fill rules which a skip wouldn't have had.

Thank you!

How would one even weigh the stuff before putting it (or not) in the bag?!

I'd look into getting a clearance company. We had a garden project and it was half the price to get a clearance company in to do 5 van loads of clearance than it was for one skip and we'd have probably needed 2 or 3. Plus we didn't have to move it ourselves to one location

We've had a skip before and I don't remember there being any restriction on what you can put in it. Worth checking access for lorry and where you can put it i.e. If it's going on the road, do you need a permit? Another option may be to see if your council will collect bulky items - ours definitely used to do this for a small charge.

If you have lots of stuff for the charity shop then they will collect it.
