Miele fridge freezer puzzle!

Hoping that someone else can enlighten me. Had above since last October. Set the temps digitally to 4 for fridge and -18 for freezer. Everything fine until a few weeks ago. I noticed that the temp for the freezer fluctuated between -18, -19 and -20. At first I thought it might be something to do with the hot weather - thinking perhaps it had to adjust itself. However, it has continued doing this even tho' the weather is cooler. It was -20 this morning even tho it had been cool all night, later it went to -19 and now it is -18 again. I have rung Miele and they said someone would come end of next week to look at it. The fridge doesn't change. Has anyone else had this problem? Would like to know. Thank you.

No,ours just stays constant.

Thank you. Never had this trouble with my Bosch or Ocean etc. Thought Miele was supposed to be long lasting!

Never had this problem with my Miele fridge freezer.

I have always been a fan of Miele but tbh my fridge freezer is a bit of a disappointment. I get large sheets of ice building up at the inside base of the freezer. I have read on here that it might be fixed by switching it off for 24 hours to clear any ice built up inside the umm innards of the freezer but have yet to try it.

I've had mine for over 10 years with no problems,if there is an issue they are very good at replacing/ fixing them .

Thank you everyone. I needed to establish whether this was normal at different times of the year. Today it has reverted to -18 but it has been showing different temperatures since beginning of June. It is bound to be behaving itself when the engineer arrives at the end of next week! If so I hope he still recognises a problem when I explain.

How long have you had yours FrogFairy? That is a real nuisance for you. I am now wondering if the new models are as good as they used to be. I keep getting told that new white goods are less reliable and long lasting as they used to be. They should be as the one I have was nearly nine hundred pounds. I chose Miele as my Bosch dishwasher nearly burnt the house down and I have been worried about their build quality. I replaced that with a basic Miele and decided on the same make for the fridge freezer and this model was the only one that gave equal space to fridge and freezer.

Mine is around 8 years old, Miele usually say their appliances are built for 20 years lifespan but I doubt it will last that long.

I have always recommended Miele but in recent years I have read more people are having issues with quality and that their customer service is not so good. Such a shame, but I am questioning whether I would pay their prices now.

Our Miele vacuum was crap. Unrelated to your post but I was so disappointed after everyone raved about them on here.

HappydaysArehere · 23/07/2017 09:37

FrogFairy eight years is nothing. I had an Ocean for twenty years and it was still working when it was taken out of the door. Then had a Bosch which we had for fifteen years which was got rid of when the handle came off and as it was so old we exchanged it for this Miele. In all those times we never had an engineer for any reason. That is why I have never taken out extra insurance on them. As said before, since the Bosch dishwasher caught fire I have gone for Miele as I was told these had the best build quality and keep hearing about fires caused by fridge freezers. Can't win!!

WhichJob, sorry you are disappointed with your vacuum cleaner. I have one which is kept for upstairs as I have a Sebo downstairs. Had it for years but never thought it was anything special which is why I bought my Sebo about 12 years ago. Never had any trouble. My worst purchase was a Dyson. Never again.

Don't worry OP,I'm sure they'll replace or fix .

We've had our washing machine for 16 years ,drier we had for 14 and fridge and freezer for 10 plus 2 vacuums both going strong after 10. I'd never buy another brand unless budget dictated.

HappydaysArehere · 24/07/2017 19:16

Thank you DameDiazepan. Hope it is rectified and have no other problems. Crossing everything!

Just in case anyone else has this problem. This is what the engineer said: he hadn't heard of this problem before If sensors go they usually cause freezer to warm up. He tested electrics, pulled all the drawers out, felt the back. Of course when he came the temperature has reverted to -18 but I explained that by the afternoon that will be -19 and then later -20. He was really nice and noted this down in case of future trouble. He thought that two degrees was probably normal but would check with other colleagues and phone me back. Which he did and they said the same. A piece of advice he gave me might be of interest. As my model isn't supposed to need defrosting I asked about turning off and cleaning etc. He says that what he does once a year is to run everything in the freezer, pull the plug out for 48hours, clean it and then turn it on again. He says this allows the gases to settle down, everything cools down and you have a new machine again! He said best if we were going away for a couple of days. Difficult I know but thought it was worth telling you. Also he says mine is a new model so it might have differences that haven't had a chance to come to light. Hope he is right. Thank you for all your replies.

Meant to say run everything down - using everything up.
