I'm crap at cleaning

Why does stuff not look better when I've cleaned? Kitchen tonight- scrubbed work tops with cream cleaner but despite wiping over loads there is a powdery coating. My loo- gets grey dust at the base and I just seem to move it around. Dusting- just seems to move dust about. And I want it to smell clean. Is that possible with cats?!
I feel like I need to go to cleaning school. The desire is there but not the skill

Have you tried damp dusting with damp microfibre cloths. Use something different if cream cleaner leaves a coating .
I am rubbish but kitchen roll helps.

Try Method Wild Rhubarb Anti-Bac spray it smells great and it works. I use it in the kitchen, bathroom, on black glass lounge furniture and my windows. I also use it to clean the cat litter trays.

E cloths. Pricy, but worth it. Use them just with water, or a liquid cleaner like Ecover or Flash , cause it does the job and doesn't leave deposits that need to be rinsed off.

Feather type duster on a stick is good for whisking round, picture frames, cobwebs etc. Don't dry dust surfaces, though. You're right, you're just moving dust about. Dampen an ecloth, squeeze out, and dust with that.
Wash the cloths often.

You'll wince at the price, but trust me, the job they do is so much better.

Try Ecover in a spray bottle- anything quite mucky-like my hob! - spray, leave , wipe 10 mins later.

Ecloths it is then. I love Method so will get some of that too. It's the clean smell I crave. Need new carpets but keep hoping shake and vac or that vanish powder will prolong their life

The window Ecloth is amazing for glass, my showers sparkle!

I think you can use bicarb on carpets, might be cheaper at least.

Cream cleaner is rubbish on worktops. Use a proper kitchen spray - anything will do - leave for a few mins and then wipe off with a damp cloth

Buy a bottle of Zoflora, use it diluted to wipe down surfaces, skirting boards, stairs and door handles. Your home will smell lovely.

Hammy12345 · 20/07/2017 10:53

I'm the sameConfused I have spent nearly 3 hours cleaning and have stepped back and it doesn't look amazing at all. I want to walk in and think the house smells and looks clean. All I seem to do is redistribute the dust and mess. I'm off to the cleaning aisle in supermarket to find these ecloths!

salemcat · 20/07/2017 12:23

Method & zoflora, micro fibre cloths damp. Works pretty well in our farm cottage & we have cats/dogs/horses/cows/kids & a whole load of rugby stuff covered in mud coming & going.

MudGolum · 20/07/2017 12:57

Elbow Grease in the yellow bottle is great for kitchens. Cheap too.

NikkiNoodle91 · 21/07/2017 16:08

For a dusty bathroom just use some kitchen roll and a bit of cleaning spray. It picks up the dust rather than moving it about.

Polkadot1974 · 21/07/2017 22:12

Loving these ideas and am ordering ecloths

I have given up using furniture polish! I dilute some zoflora and use micro fibre cloth on everything! Bath room i use viakal and flash spray was all floors with a bit of washing up liquid and diluted zoflora.

woodhill · 24/07/2017 09:22

Washing up liquid in bowl cleans my kitchen normally unless surface gets really dirty

EdithWeston · 24/07/2017 09:24

Shake bicarbonate onto the carpet, leave overnight and hoover up in the morning. God for dealing with smells. As is getting a professional to come in and deep clean.
