Tomato stain on lino and we're trying to sell the house - HELP!

RubberDuck · 23/03/2007 12:29

Just noticed that there's tomato stain from last night's sausage casserole in a prominent position on the WHITE kitchen lino.

House is on the market. It needs to be immaculate.

PLEASE does anyone have a foolproof method to remove this from the lino?

Astonish cleaner in a tub from Lakeland is v good, you could also try bicarb of soda? Think Lakeland do other cleaners too which might work, worth checking their website.

Rug

suejonez · 23/03/2007 19:41

or plant pot

GreenandBlackOtter · 23/03/2007 19:44

flash kitchen spray with bleach ..keep applying till it fades

Nbg · 23/03/2007 19:46

Tipex or a bit of white paint.

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 19:47

bleach (diluted)

suejonez · 23/03/2007 19:55

a rug I tell you, get a rug.

Pannacotta · 23/03/2007 20:02

Wouldn't use bleach on lino as it will leave a mark.
Try more natural stain removers first perhaps...

brimfull · 23/03/2007 20:03

add some more spoldges of tomato ...et voila...a red splodge patterned floor!

RubberDuck · 23/03/2007 20:35

LOL at some of these!!

So far, I have tried:

  • lemon juice
  • bicarb
  • white wonder (from kleeneze)
  • normal floor cleaner
  • the stain remover stuff (oxy-something?) you put in your washing, dissolved in some water and rubbed in.

Totally not in a position to place anything over as it would be so obvious. Reluctant to try bleach yet.

Will pop into Lakeland tomorrow and try and get some Astonish, thanks for that

when they come to view, have your small adorable child playing with some soapy water in a big plastic bowl right on the spot.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2007 20:42

One of those miracle stain removing blocks? Which may be the "white wonder" you mention.

Oxyclean?

LedodgyCheapEasterEggsAreASin · 23/03/2007 20:45

Tbh if it's lino and you can't get it out it is cheap as chips i'd pop to B&Q and buy new.
We have the same sort of problem , our house is going on the market soon and the bedroom carpet has fake tan stains on any ideas?

southeastastra · 23/03/2007 20:48

but you could try really dilute bleach with a cotton wool bud on a tiny bit? i would

I watched "How clean is your house" yesterday and one of them recommended Vodka for getting tomato sauce stains out. There is something in the Vokda that will lift stains without doing damage. Apply the vodka, then sponge off with warm soapy water.

RubberDuck · 26/03/2007 15:58

I've actually been a lazy moo and ignored it for a few days Was going to try bleach next before spending money at Lakeland, but the vodka tip sounds good too - may try that this evening

and if it doesn't work you can get too drunk to notice!

RubberDuck · 26/03/2007 16:28

Shhh... Ledodgy... they're not supposed to notice that bit!!!

I would def try the vodka trick before bleach.
We have lino floor (Marmooleum which is cork based rather than vinyl/plastic lino) and bleach def DOES mark it - the cleaner damaged the bathroom floor so I speak from experience.
But as said it does depend on which lino it is. But vodka should be fine either way...

RubberDuck · 26/03/2007 21:15

Vodka didn't work

Am looking through my various cleaners - none of them seem to have bleach in them - will they actually say "bleach" on there somewhere?! I have Mr Muscle kitchen and Mr Muscle bathroom, but neither explicitly say bleach.

Nor does the old bottle of cream cleaner I forgot I had.

Somehow, I think toilet duck might be a bit too strong

(I'm going to ban the consumption of tomato products in the house from now on... this is silly)
