Hoovers... which is the best really??

I have had a handheld Dyson for the past 3 years that was the bees knees when I first got it, but it's on it's last legs now after being used at least 8x a day for the past 1095 days poor thing. Suction is crap. Recently acquired a 10 year old basic Miele that still has fantastic suction it almost lifts my carpet up! Heard Shark hoovers are good too (and yes I know they're actually called vacuum cleaners Hmm). I have 2 little girls that might aswell be golden retrievers the way they malt, so pet one is considerable.

Sebo! Amazing pick up and they're bomb proof. Ours is a 23 year old hand-me-down from MIL and still works perfectly, never needed anything other than a new bag. It's computer controlled and automatically sense and adjusts the roller for different floors.

Ours is knocking on a bit now, the newer models have more modern features like stair reach hoses and turbo brushes for pet hair, but they still use the same design as they've always done.

JaneEyre70 · 28/06/2017 17:04

I had a Shark steam mop, and it was of such poor quality that it didn't even last 12 months and they blamed over use. I steamed the floors twice a week........Hmm. It was very plasticky and the fittings very poor quality. Regarding your Dyson, have you washed the whole thing especially the filters or replaced them? I find with mine it needs a complete take apart every 3 months to clean all of it.......then you have no vacuum for 3 days while it all dries out. But it's like a new one once it's all put back together. Ours is 10 years old and still going strong though it's a bit battered to say the least.

I recently bought a Sebo X4 Pet and it's amazing compared to the crappy bagless Electrolux we had. It adjusts to the floor level, has a power boost and the hose reaches all the way upstairs no trouble. The carpets look like new and our bedroom one, which is a really deep, thick one looks properly clean for the first time since we've lived here. Worth every penny. And I don't have to empty it every five minutes.

e1y1 · 29/06/2017 01:52

Another one here who recommends a Sebo. I have very recently got one (the X1 version). I have a Miele upright too (S7280), but not all that impressed with that one.

Bagged hoovers all the way. Bagless just do not work.

FiveShelties · 29/06/2017 02:57

Another Sebo fan, excellent machine.

JustDontGetItAtAll · 29/06/2017 03:01

My Shark is fabulous!

Go to YouTube and search 'Ibasaic' he does Vacuum reviews and is a veritable expert!! X

SuperBeagle · 29/06/2017 03:06

Miele Cat and Dog vacuum.

Have had ours for a few years now and it's as good as it was when we got it. Previously had a Dyson, an Electrolux, a Samsung... all rubbish (the Dyson was especially rubbish).

NanTheWiser · 29/06/2017 10:39

Sego again! Fantastic.

NanTheWiser · 29/06/2017 10:39

Oops! Should be Sebo!

stream26 · 29/06/2017 16:27

I agonized about replacing our bagged canister vacuum cleaner (yeah, I know, first-world problem....) because I really didn't want to go bagless, but except for Mieles ($$$) all the bagged canisters got horrible reviews. Based on Cozzy recommendation, I went with a Shark Rocket Ultra-Light Upright, and I absolutely love it, notwithstanding that it's bagless! (We empty it in a garbage can in the garage). It's basically a convertible -- it can be an upright or a canister, so much easier for the kids to use it and to lug it up and downstairs. We have two cats and three females with long hair in our house, and it scoffs at the hair. The various attachments are great. I think we got the "pet bundle" or similar, which has a small motorized head that is perfect for our carpeted stairs. We have a mix of carpet, area rugs, and hardwood floor and it works great for all of those.

TheRollingCrone · 29/06/2017 16:32

Miele cat & dog!

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 29/06/2017 22:02

Miele Cat and Dog, fab!

Onynx · 29/06/2017 22:14

Had a miele cat & dog & it was fab - really strong suction until my husband killed it 😏 replaced with the new miele bagless - also fab & way easier to empty than Dyson. Suction excellent with the added bonus of being as to see when I suck up lego😂

Vagndidit · 29/06/2017 22:43

Another vote for Miele Cat and Dog. I have horrible allergies and have realised that my previous bagless Dyson was making things worse. Miele bags are fab!

Love my Henry. Priceless.

extinctspecies · 04/04/2018 17:21

We have had both Sebo & Miele Cat & Dog & both are excellent.

RavenLG · 04/04/2018 17:37

We've gone from a henry to a shark and I love it. So much more powerful, you can actually see the muck in the carpets bouncing around before it sucks it up. Only con is the chamber is quite small so I do have to empty it once after doing downstairs and then again after upstairs but it's easy to empty so not too much of an issue. If i hoovered more it might be less of an issue ha.
Parents too have a shark and it works wonders on husky hair which is a challenge in itself.

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 04/04/2018 17:39

Henry. I will never ever replace him with any other brand.

HGavlar · 05/04/2018 12:26

I need a good recommendation for a new vacuum cleaner. My good old reliable DC25 Dyson (upright) is on its last legs. Shall I stick with Dyson (get cordless) and not fret about the cost or try something else. Live in detached with half carpet and half tiles. Adults and two cats. Thanks in advance

mattpslab · 19/11/2018 04:28

gingergiraffe · 19/11/2018 17:10

If your dyson is on it’s last legs, why not get it serviced? I have passed my first two dyson onto my dcs. The filters are washed regularly as is the dust container and you can even wash the bit on the middle once you have removed the filters. Pressure is still really good.

I am lucky in that there is a dyson repair guy just up the road who sorts things out within a couple of days though goodness knows what I will do when he retires.
