Built in steam ovens - are they worth it?

We had a combination steam oven and microwave. It hasn't worked well so we are hopefully going to replace it. We only have space for one built in appliance so I'm trying to decide whether to go for another built in steam oven and to keep a microwave in the utility room (which will be a bit annoying). Or shall we ditch the fancy steam oven, get a built in microwave and just used a countertop steaming device? I loved being able to do veg and rice so easily in the steam oven, just a press of a button and it runs for the correct amount of time. Will I miss it?

We have a built in steam oven. We eat quite a lot of fish and rice (both of which are a joy to cook in a steam oven)..and I often use it for heating up meals we have frozen or chilled. Once in a while we'll steam some puddings/cook fruit. If I am making a batch of mash, I'll tend to cube the spuds and steam them rather than boil them. It is also useful for cooking big batches of veg for soups.
I should probably use it more.

Our microwave cost about £50 and we use it for reheating cups of coffee I've left to cool and cooking frozen sweetcorn/peas. Once in a while I'll get it to help defrost something, but it sits in the corner of the kitchen gathering dust normally. I'm not sure that I'd rush to replace it.

It really depends on what sort of food you cook.

I don't think I'd be without our steam oven now. It was my husbands choice to have it but I have to say it gets a lot of use. We still have a microwave in the larder cupboard but it only really gets used for occasional reheating (although the steam oven is much better at this), cooking peas and making porridge!
