New vacuum needed - Dyson DC40 or Miele CX1 excellence

I need a new vacuum as my Vax has given up and I am never getting another vax - badly engineered and weighs a tonne and shit on stairs.

I have looked at bagless options and narrowed down to the Dyson DC40 multifloor or the Miele CX1 excellence they are around £100 apart in price Dyson (£199) and Miele (£275) - I am not sure I can justify the Miele cost but they are well made machines - I hear conflicting reports of Dysons but the 5yr guarantee is appealing - but is the machine going to be a repeat of the Vax so I spend hours chasing up spare/ replacement parts...

Gah! I ould get a bagged Miele but then I spend additional cash every couple of months getting new bags...

Help - tell me what to do .... please Grin

My Dyson choked after about 5 years. It did an ok job but I was never that impressed. Replaced it with the new Miele bagless dog and cat - much better suction and it feels more sturdy (but it is a bit heavier). I love my Dyson cordless but will never buy another full size Dyson again.

Miele definitely, bags last longer than you think and can be bought cheaply on amazon. There are some excellent offers from time to time on the machines. Had mine years, never had any problems, suction much better than previous 2 dysons. Would not buy another dyson.

We got a lightweight Shark last Christmas and I absolutely love it. Doesn't feel like a chore to whip it out 2-3 times a day for DD's messes and it's super light and easy to use on stairs/sofa/the idiotic 6 foot teddy bear that the PIL bought DD for Christmas.
