hanging out washing

Where I live it's a fantastic drying day, windy and sunny.
Anyway my MIL had hold me a way of hanging larger items like sheets so they require no ironing. As I don't iron anyway like the sound of this but don't quite understand what she meant and she's away so can't ask her.
Basically it involves hanging the sheet and folding it up into a bag shape. This I get but she mentioned pegging the sides.
Does anyone hang sheets ilke this and if so can they give me simple instuctions.
Pegging sides sounds weird, would use a lot of pegs and weigh down the washing I would think.
Hope this makes sense.

Hang the sheet in halves over the line, longways. Peg each free side of the sheet closed.

It'll dry all nice and wrinkle free.

do people iron their bedding?

PestoMonster · 20/03/2007 14:08

iron bedding!!!!!

ROFL

Babyramone · 20/03/2007 14:35

Thanks Expat will try that.
I actually iron nothing but like any tip that gets creases out naturally rather than the crumpled mess I normally put on my bed.
As for ironing bedding you should try living round here. There was gasps of shock when I admitted never really ironed anything. Some even iron teatowels, muslins and undies. My sister being one. She insists thats why ironing boards are curved a end, so you can put your pants over it

ScottishThistle · 20/03/2007 14:54

Ha!...I used to be a pant ironer until I realised lifes too short!

I do iron muslins however but I'm a Nanny!

expatinscotland · 20/03/2007 14:55

My gran used to iron pants.

It made her happy.

She found ironing very relaxing.

PestoMonster · 20/03/2007 14:55

Heeeee Heeeeeeeeee!!!!

Babyramone · 20/03/2007 14:56

You should of seen my dad when she did it in front him. Thought he was going to die, he was laughing so much he couldn't breath

Was watching The Wright Stuff (Channel 5) ages ago and the panel were having a go at Matthew Wright, saying he was living a student lifestyle, coz he didn't iron his bedding! Load of b*x! I iron when hell freezes over and not before!

laundrylover · 20/03/2007 15:16

My bedding is out on the line blowing like billy-o!! No fancy pegging needed today for a crease free finish. Will warm it on the radiator and then straight on the bed and in at bedtime....mmmmmmm....small pleasures eh?

I had to get my ironing board out in front of my MIL last week to hem curtains. It's a tiny one from Ikea and she nearly wet herself laughing. It only usually comes out for weddings and interviews.

Babyramone · 20/03/2007 15:18

Expat my mums like your gran.
I seem to come from a ironing mad family. How I let them down.

Laundrylover I can't even put my ironing board up (get fingers caught)
Also looking forward to clean fresh sheets on bed.
God help my DH if he dares get in first.

My mum used to iron when we were at school but she never does any now. DPs parents are obsessed!! When we lived with them for a spell my knickers were all ironed and I was horrified when DP said his Dad did the ironing. They are not a pretty sight! His mum also insists on the washing line being put away after each use and when people stay over the sheets are washed and out to dry before breakfast is finished. Our overnight guests take their chances with the bedding I'm afraid.

saltire · 20/03/2007 15:59

I know they way your MIL means, I hang my sheets like that and they never need ironed

Katy44 · 20/03/2007 16:51

My parents iron everything - even rags with great big holes in! Knickers, tea towels...
But strangely not socks

NineUnlikelyTales · 20/03/2007 16:58

I iron bedding, socks, pants, tea towels, muslins......

Katy44 · 20/03/2007 17:02

just picked meself up off the floor from laughing so hard at the thought of me EVER ironing bedding

I am proud of the fact that on one of the rare occasions when the ironing board came out of the cupboard, ds (about two then) pointed at it in surprise and said '"oh, nanny's!"

ImaWurzel · 20/03/2007 19:01

I only iron work clothes for DH and myself.
And if we are going out somewhere nice like dinner/Christening/Weddings etc etc.
Don't do pants, bedding etc. Why??? That's just weird. It's gonna get creased up within 5 minutes!!

NannyL · 20/03/2007 20:14

I hang my sheets like that and I iron them!

but i iron nearly everything

NEVER iron knickers though!

willandsamsmum · 21/03/2007 22:30

The only things I ever iron are school uniform and trousers for work. I went through a very brief phase of ironing DH's boxers when we first got together and vests when DS1 was tiny but they didn't last very long. Life is too short for ironing.

MrsSpoon · 21/03/2007 22:36

Hanging out sheets so they don't need ironed! Takes all the pleasure out of it! Ironing can be rather theraputic IMO.

I'm also loving getting the washing out, had washing out three times this week and twice had to rewash items because of bird poo, seriously contemplating getting another cat.
