My iron has started to blow the socket fuse after 10 mins or so. It's really getting annoying resetting everything and I suspect it's also a bit dangerous! Can any one recommend me a new iron? (or give me the link to a recent thread - I did try scrolling back a few pages but couldn't see one)

Are these Steam Generators worth it?
Budget wise I can go to £100-150 but only if it's the dogs B*K's
Or do I stick to a normal iron?

Mostly ironing DH's work shirts and occasionally bed sheets if I have to. I try to avoid it where possible though!

Also worth getting a new ironing board? Mine is a crappy old one but still fully functional. Should I just treat it to a new cover or are there new ironing boards which would knock my socks off (so to speak)

I got a Russel Hobbs Supreme Steam Had for about year and it irons all our clothes really well, not sure if it's the best though!

Steam generators are very good, however, if you are a more of an "iron as you need it person" steam generators can be a bit of a pain, as they take a few mins to fire up and they're bulkier (of course). So whilst steam generators WILL cut your ironing time in half, they come more into their own for ironing sessions (ie a weeks worth of ironing in one go).

I have both, a steam generator which is used for ironing a lot of stuff at one time. And a normal iron if I am just doing a tshirt or 2 in the morning.

Re - ironing boards, unless it is completely solid-sturdy and the comes to the right height so you don't have to "stoop" over to use it, then yes absolutely would be worth getting a new one.

Plus a lot of newer ironing boards have a spot for putting a steam generator on, whereas older ones don't. So you'd need your steam generator on a table/sideboard and the ironing board next to it.

Mine:

IRONING BOARD

HAND IRON

My steam generator is an older model, so I can't find it on sale, but not too dissimilar to THIS

I have the Tefal Pro Express Total. It was reduced, £100. Totally brilliant. I haven't had anything other than a steam, from r the he last 20 years. They are fab.

Recommend me a new iron please!!
