Alternative uses for oil from plug in air freshener/room fragrancer

I bought a plug in air freshener but I don't really notice much scent from it. I've found a better alternative in the time set air fresheners but I dont want to waste the refills I have for the oil based plug ins. Is there anything else I can do with the oil from them?

Maybe rub them on radiators and as it heats up it'll smell nice? Or put in in my Hoover? (How!?) Or......? Any ideas welcome :)

Nope. The oils are pretty corrosive. They'll strip paint.

I was worried about that. Also worried about putting them on anything fabric as assume they'll stain. How about rubbing the oil on the leaves of fake plants?

Pot pourri leaves.

They are meant to have oils sprinkled on them after all.....

Dilute them with baby oil and spray them into the toilet like V.I. Poo? Grin

It's not just me then. I don't notice much scent from mine either. I bought a new one thinking it was faulty but it's the same.

Thanks gingernaut I'll try it.

Haha sgtmajor, I might try that!

Myusername I had mine turned up to max but it just didn't smell of anything, rubbish! The air wick ones which spray at time set intervals are much better.

There is controversy about their safety and studies come out regularly stating that air freshener and scented candles increase cancer risk, so I would just bin them instead of using them in an alternative way. Chemicals react with other chemicals and sometimes turn into new molecules. Air freshness already release formaldehyde in contact with the ozone. You don't want to make things worse by putting them near heat sources or other chemicals in paint or coatings.

If you want to try putting them in the hoover, soak something like a cotton wool ball and Hoover it up.

Yeah when I first plug mine in it smells really nice but it soon wears off

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 11/06/2017 22:51

Think I'll just give up on them, thanks everyone :)

You'll just be used to the scent so have stopped noticing it. Just like when you put perfume on you can smell it, but after a short while you can't, but others can.

I hate airfresheners - always think they are hiding something and they smell disgusting mixed with cigarette smoke or dog smells. Urgh.

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 12/06/2017 17:33

I thought that but went on holiday and when I got back I still couldn't smell anything. I think flowers smell nicer and stronger so I'll just use them I think.

I think it is very wise. And flowers look so pretty as well!
