Morning all!

We are looking to buy a new cooker/range and induction seems to be very popular. I know how they work and that you need specific pans but my question is - what do people really thing about them? Have you tried and induction and hated it? Loved it? Any opinions would be gratefully !

Have a great Saturday :-)

Ordinary ceramic jobs are horrible. They take an age to heat up, another age to cool down when your pan reaches the boil and stay dangerously hot for a long time.

Induction boils water and heats up pans immediately, responds pretty much instantly when you turn the power down and the hob is safe to touch within minutes of use.

I have an induction hob, it responds instantly like gas, it's more energy efficient than gas and it's so easy to clean. You do need compatible pans but they are not that difficult to find - I use Ikea 365 stainless steel ones.

Ah - thanks PickAChew and NannyR - that was one of the key things we wanted to know - the heating times. Our current ceramic one does take and eon to warm and cool like you've both said! That's a couple of great points then! Many thanks!

Another vote for induction - it's quick, clean and efficient. A little tip given to me by my oven cleaning man - you can put kitchen paper or even a tea towel over the hob and heat the pans through it - keeps the hob even cleaner and avoids scratches. The paper/cloth does not get hot! I have been doing this for several years and my hob looks like new!

Wow that's an interesting point MilkTrayLimeBarrel! I'm all for keeping my hob clean lol! Thanks!

Another vote for induction here. Unless you have been casseroling for an age, the glass is fine touch within a minute or so with my cast iron pans. I just give it a quick wipe with a cloth (no need to dismantle gas burners if a pan boils over).
