Need a new washing machine

Mumneedstea · 05/06/2017 16:55

Mine is about to break down! It ends each cycle on an error code. Since we inherited the washing machine when we bought this house, I am more than ready to buy a new one. Recommendations please :)

Also, should I get a washer and dryer or get a separate dryer. I do have a dryer right now, but it's 8 years old, is very basic and isn't very good for my clothes... They fade very quickly when put in the dryer. So I may need a new dryer too later this year.... Unless anyone has recommendatios was a good washer and dryer.

TIA!

Miele are the best you can get but they're expensive. They do last for years though.

And definitely recommend separate washer & dryer.

wheresthel1ght · 05/06/2017 20:52

Definitely go for separates. And I would suggest going for the most expensive you can afford, the cheaper ones tend to die after a t years or so.

Look on sites like ao.com, I found them very helpful and they have a really good finance package. Plus the next day delivery was brilliant

Separate washer and dryer.

Buy a Miele from the bottom of the range. There are several models between £600 and £650 just from a quick look on JohnLewis. You still get the great quality without all the unnecessary bells and whistles.

Mumneedstea · 11/06/2017 14:01

Thanks all! Looks like it's going to be Miele for us.
Any recommendations for a dryer? I really would like one that know how long to run based on how wet the clothes are. The one we have right now needs to have the time set on it.. Which means sometimes it overruns and sometimes the clothes are still wet.

AEG machines are amazing. Designed to reduce creasing & therefore, ironing.

orzal · 11/06/2017 14:16

My AEG tumble drier is brilliant. I haven't done any ironing since I've had mine.

Miele!

gemmatay · 11/06/2017 15:06

Depends on your budget, you might be interested in a hotpoint, this ones about 270 quid but it's really good quality and durable.

ilovevenice · 11/06/2017 15:09

If you're anywhere near Abingdon (Oxfordshire), try the Miele outlet store. We bought a washing machine, dryer and rotary iron from them and saved about £600.

FrogFairy · 11/06/2017 18:28

My next dryer will be a gas tumble dryer with sensor.

I've just bought myself a Miele (my previous one died after 18 years of hard labour) and I love it. I went to ao.com, who I always find very helpful - they delivered the next day, installed the new machine and took away all the packing and the old machine too, for only a small extra charge.

HappydaysArehere · 15/06/2017 21:55

Has anyone found the weight of the Miele to be a problem?

rabbit123 · 16/06/2017 12:23

I can't say I regularly go around lifting the washing machine off the floor, so no. Although it is heavy even by washing machine standards

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/06/2017 13:00

I think the concrete bases are 12 stone, certainly something to consider if you need to move it. Poor dh had to help the delivery chap get it up the steps to out flat - both huge men and they really struggled. There isn't any pulling it out to clean behind it once it's in place ! Grin

Heya!

I'm having a very similar problem! Only I don't trust the bigger brands to send out my stuff like AO.com (had the worst customer service experience!)

I ended up using these guys buyhomeappliance.co.uk/ because they were local, plus they helped me set it up, which is especially helpful when you've got a big baby bump and the hubby's at work!

Hope that helped!

I have been using this one here for the past 6 months and it has been brilliant!

Though you've already gone with Miele i also recommend Speed Queen washers. I've always had good luck with them and even when they need repairs, meaning small repairs, they're not that hard to fix other than putting the body of the washer back on just right. Top loading style also seem to be the better choice imo, like the one at www.facebook.com/CentrexMedia/posts/1913101788929733

As for dryers, it is better to get separate washers and dryers instead of the combo. The combos don't seem to be as reliable in my experience.
