Have you got any time saving tips for housework?

I.e. Cleaning shower when having a shower?
Cleaning bath when inn bath?

That's the one I was going to suggest but you're already there!

I call it 'use it - clean it'. E.g. give the toilet a quick wipe/brush - wipe the kitchen counter down - spray the shower after getting out, etc.

Only if it needs it of course.

Of course some things you still need to go out of your way to do - e.g. you can't vacuum the floor every time you use it!

baby wipes, they are great for giving tables etc a quick wipe down and dust without fully polishing.

ZilphasHatpin · 08/05/2017 21:59

Pretty much do everything as you go along. My aunt dusts door handles, windowsills, banister, skirting boards as she walks past them with her sleeve, or sock Grin but yes, clean as you go. It saves doing a massive clean.

BusyBee2017 · 08/05/2017 22:04

Thank you all.

Never thought about using my sleeves or socks to dust lol.. usually I am using my sleeves to clean my DS1 dribble or snot when I forget to put a tissue in my pocket then my cardigan goes in the wash hhaha or DS2 spills milk on me lol

With kids you always end up with dribble snot or milk on your clothes

I always try and to wear clothes with pockets so I can keep a tissue handy for snotty noses, I think I will keep a cleaning cloth in the other pocket or maybe a wipe to clean as I move around the house ahah

I use small amounts of 'dead time' e.g. - waiting for the kettle to boil/ being put on hold on the phone to do small jobs such as cleaning door handles/kitchen cupboards. In the morning I can get the dishwasher unloaded and surfaces tidied while waiting for toaster to pop and kettle to boil.

BusyBee2017 · 08/05/2017 22:07

Wow that's good going unloading the dishwasher and cleaning work surface whilst your toaster and kettle do their job! U r very quick

Oh yes - also - put a load of washing on last thing in the evening. Set the delayed timer on your washing machine so that it starts before you all get up. I set mine to finish off just in time to hang it out before we all leave the house. Good for the summer, so you can get maximum drying time on the washing line!

ZilphasHatpin · 08/05/2017 22:11

Yes to keeping wipes everywhere! They are the best invention of all time.

I do the dishwasher whilst kettle boiling thing too.

Actually, I make my Dc do it most days now Grin

BackforGood · 08/05/2017 22:12

As others have said, do stuff as you go along. Empty dishwasher whilst eating breakfast ........ put washing in whilst waiting for kettle........ wipe round bathroom while dc are in the bath....... I always keep cloth and spray in both bathroom and understairs toilet - just do stuff as you go along.

ZilphasHatpin · 08/05/2017 22:12

goldspot I think we are the same person. Or you are my mum! Grin I do the washer like that too.

GoldSpot · 08/05/2017 22:13

BusyBee - I have the morning tidy nailed - admittedly, the dishwasher takes a couple of rounds of toast! I hate being stressed in the morning so have got myself into a routine that I don't even have to think about!

GoldSpot · 08/05/2017 22:16

Zilphas - I get nerdy amounts of pleasure out of things like this! Grin

BusyBee2017 · 08/05/2017 22:21

Thank you all.
I will try and do that but things take a lot longer with a 20 month year old who wants to help/slow things down hehehe bless him!

When I unload the dishwasher he will give me each individual spoon to me to put in the draw... sometimes he will lick the clean spoon!!!! Hilarious but he creates more work because I have to put the spoon back in the dishwasher lol

I also keep cleaning products in wc and bathroom to clean whilst I am there

ZilphasHatpin · 08/05/2017 22:28

everything takes longer with a 20 month old! That's just how it's going to be for a while OP, sorry!

You could get him his own little plastic set of cutler and a tray to put them in himself whilst you get on with the proper, non-licked cutlery.

Shitalopram · 08/05/2017 22:37

ZilphasHatpin what a great idea to clean skirting boards with your feet! I will be saving my knees and doing that from now on.

ZilphasHatpin · 08/05/2017 22:42

Grin I must grab a notepad the next time I see my aunt and see what other time saving tips she has up her (dusty) sleeve.

BusyBee2017 · 08/05/2017 23:02

Haha yes please
