Washing machine

Can anyone recommend a good washing machine please?
My old Bosch machine lasted for many years and was excellent but my circumstances have changed and my budget cannot stretch that far.
I've spent the evening looking online and have overloaded my brain and can't decide.
I've a budget of up to £300.
Many thanks in advance.

We had a Beko and I loved it. Lots of programme flexibility. Not expensive and it worked well.

Would you get a nearly new Bosch or one from an appliance shop? Our Bosch came by that route and it has been rock solid. There are Bosch machines with a list price under £300 in fact. See if there is one near you on ebay.

Another vote for Beko. We bought one cheap to put us on when our Hotpoint packed up and we ended up having it 6 years with no trouble. It's still in use with a family friend too.

Ours was a bit like this, but had a smaller drum

Thanks everyone. A couple of people at work also recommended Beko so will definitely look into those.

I got an indesit about 8 years ago. The entire kitchen was gutted and replaced and we had to cut down on the quality (as we thought) of the washing machine. It has been great. No problems in 8 years and it's used every day.

Currys are selling a brand new Bosch for £280.

HERE.

Yes granted it is "only" a 6kg drum, so if you go for something like Beko in the same price range, you'd likely get 8-9kg drum and maybe a faster spin. But it if it just brand and longevity you're after, a new Bosch can be had under £300. And YY - Bosch machines are generally fab, one of the best washers I ever owned (and am currently racking a few up on that list) was a Bosch.

Interestingly, on the Website White Goods - the guy on there says 6 (maybe 7kg) is the limit of maximum load on a washing machine. Anything bigger, then mechanically there is going to be compromises somewhere (usually in the longevity of the machine). Basically saying that as drums have got bigger and bigger (some now reach 13kg apparently) and the machine's dimensions themselves have not altered, there has to be a compromise to fit this bigger drum in the same size body of the machine.

I agree try to get a cheap Bosch, they wash so well and unless you're unlucky will last many years.

fussychica · 10/05/2017 16:59

Agree. I've had Bosch in the past, great machines. I have a wonderful AEG now but wold consider Bosch alongside AEG in future.

SquidgeyMidgey · 10/05/2017 19:58

I'm sure you can get a Bosch for 300. I'd never buy anything else.

AntagonyAunt · 10/05/2017 20:12

I have a LG large drum washer/dryer. If you don't have a separate tumble dryer I would recommend a washer/dryer.

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/05/2017 20:14

Bosch.

rabbit123 · 10/05/2017 20:31

The cheap Bosch's aren't even made by Bosch. They're cheap, Chinese junk that's outsourced. Series 4 upwards are all proper Bosch.

rabbit123 · 10/05/2017 20:33

This is the cheapest Bosch that's actually made by Bosch

Rabbit that's interesting, will have to check mine in the morning!

I got suckered by the sales talk in Currys and purchased a Samsung Ecobubble because it had a five year warranty! It is h worst washing machine I've ever owned in thirty years!

I've had it independentoh checked and it is working as it should and sadly it is just not very good when compared with previous washing machines. It has good reviews but both my daughter and I hate it! I spent just over £600 almost 18 months ago and not a day goes by when I don't think about smashing it to bits with a hammer!

I could sell it but would only get a fraction of my money back so am going to wait for a good trade in offer.

I've never owned one but I've heard from other people that Beko are reliable and wash well.

Chillidawg · 11/05/2017 06:16

I have a Bosch Serie 4 Varioperfect, paid £249 for it in JL last year. Very very pleased.
It's only a 6/7kg, and has a 1200 spin. Hiwever, when I explained to salesman that I tend to do a coloured wash every day and 2 hot washes a week, with a family of 4, he said it was unlikely that I'd be using the machine at full capacity so the slightly empty loads would compensate for the lower spin speed. That has proved right, the washing is very well spun.
