Kitchen knives

Hi all,

Id like to expand my kitchen knives with quality over quantity. Unfortunately I don't have a 'Global' type price range but a more budget friendly £40-50 per knife. Doesn't have to be knife block, singular are fine.

Any recommendations?

Global knives are very expensive if you buy them individually but if you buy a set in a block the cost does average out to about £40-50 per knife.

I like Kitchen Devil knives, cheap but chop well, sharpen nicely and cope with the dishwasher.

Saving for Globes as I love chopping food up!

When we got married, DH had a (fairly) expensive kitchen knife which allegedly doesn't need sharpening, and which can't be sharpened. I had some John Lewis own brand ones and a steel. Mine are much sharper now (at least when I've sharpened them), so I'd suggest getting ones you can sharpen. I'm happy with the John Lewis ones, though I haven't used more expensive ones to be able to comment!

Get a MAC knife - they're often on offer on Amazon for around the £40-£60 mark and they are truly AMAZING! Hold the edge well, sharpen beautifully and are stunning to chop with. I was a Global addict until I bought my first mac!

Recommend Robert Welsh from John Lewis; reasonably priced and cry sharp. We got the block and set for a wedding present 7 years and they're still going strong!

I would just get the one and have a decent Global chef's knife. That is what I use for pretty much everything!
