I am seeing my upcoming house move as a chance to try the whole being-an-organised-adult again. Any advice, tips or tricks on keeping a tidy, clean, organised and happy house (and life!) much appreciated! Please teach me how to be an adult!Grin

Watching with interest as I could also do with some help in this area...

I started a sort-of bullet journal last year and I love it and have definitely become more organised as a result.

And yy re fitted wardrobes etc... DH insisted on ripping out the fitted wardrobes in the DC's room when we moved into a new place and I am reminded of this daily because there is nowhere for anything to go!

Put away things where they belong, don't dump them on a chair/floor to deal with later. Especially with children, make sure they have some kind of storage for their shoes/coat/bags when they walk in.

Don't have a messy kitchen: only keep the things you are using outside (kettle), everything else in cupboard. I empty the dish washer first thing in the morning, so there's somewhere to put the breakfast dishes before I leave.

I could not agree more with fitted wardrobes, they make a room look tidy but make sure it's not a mess inside.

Plan practical storage for everything. You know your life, if you receive constant letters and emails from schools for example, have somewhere to put them all until you deal with them.

I have a big calendar, with different columns, where we write everything. An online calendar wouldn't work for my kids, so we use the old fashion one. I have my own diary with all the details.

I never have to tidy when I have visitors: it is what it is, if they don't like it, they don't have to say, but in general the house is more than presentable. Why would I make more effort for someone popping in for an hour, but not for us who live here?

For me, having storage and be realistic about the way we live is the most important thing.

^ this is my goal!

don't get me wrong, it's not a show-house!

currently there's some kind of lego fest in the living room, but it's Sunday and it's nice to see the kids. However, the laundry is never on show, the hall is tidy - because no reason why it wouldn't be, the kitchen is as good as can be, because dirty dishes would get on my nerves. Once you are in a routine, things stay tidy because there's a place for everything, and it doesn't take any time to maintain.

I would -

Mop on Monday
Clean bathroom on Tuesday
Vacuum Wednesday
Really good kitchen clean Thursday
Polish on Friday

Daily - get a bag and walk to wind an throw away any rubbish
Walk round gathering cups

Ask the kids to help with a little threat encouragement

Little and often works wonders!
