Does anyone have a drying shed?

My Dad had one and eulogised about it.

Now we're viewing properties and one of them has a massive drying shed hidden behind the garage with loads of sheets pegged out. I found myself getting very over excited and DH had to tell me that the house is more important!

Are they really as amazing as I hope?

I'd buy a tumble dryer and use it for something else Wink

Doesn't use any electricity though! Air fresh all year round!

There's only one thing that would put me off, and that is the thought of spiders.

I'd constantly be on edge knowing how the bastards hide away and then decide to terrorise you when you least expect it.

That's very true. My Dads shed was quite spidery. I'm hardcore though, me. Grin

Is it Sweden where they have drying cupboards. The stuff of dreams Wink

Ours is insulated and gets extremely hot. But as pps have said wouldn't want to find a spider in my smallsShock

I have a boiler room. It sold the house to me! The actual boiler is now 47 years old but still going strong. It should technically be condemned for tiny issues like the flue is 5cm too short but my son is a plumber/gas man & checks it. You can still buy parts too & it has so few bits in it anyway.
The water comes on twice a day so even in the Summer I can dry a couple of loads of washing on hangers in there overnight. I don't own a tumble dryer.

I have a boiler room too. There was an old one in when we bought the house but we did a big renovation and knocked down the old one and rebuilt for all the new kit and the hot water tank. I have a pulley dryer and a small pull out one from the wall and I dry most washing there. It's fab.

Haven't heard of a drying shed. Sounds interesting!

It's basically a three sided shed, but there's space between the slats for the breeze to whistle through.

You literally never have to use a tumble dryer or have clothes inside. 😍😍😍

A friend of mine puts one of those plastic gazebo things over her whirly line in the Winter.

ElspethFlashman · 05/05/2017 16:17

That's pretty genius, actually.

Sounds amazing!

Just googled. Good idea if you have the space. We lived in Germany when I was a child and in the basement there were washing lines.

We have old barns with enough holes if that is the same thing Grin. Too many birds nest in there though - full of swallows right now.
