Housetraining a puppy and cleaning wooden floors!

I have a new pup who is taking a while to get used to the idea of housetrainingConfused

We have stained pine floorboards (with whacking great big gaps between them) and they are looking a little worse for wear with age anyway. I cannot bear the idea that our house smells and obviously the pup is bringing in more mud etc from outside as well as leaving me puddles and parcels of joy everywhere!

What is the best way to clean them? Can I steam mop? I hoover but they need wet cleaning. I find the vileda mops fairly useless and usually end up on hands and knees with a floor cloth and bucket. I'd like an easier but as effective way to clean the floor please!

Has anyone got any sugggestions?

You need enzymes to break down the proteins that cause the smell. You can buy good "pet stain remover" in a spray bottle, eg Simple Solution which is available at Petsmart. We use the carpet stuff on LVT but I'm sure I've seen a hard floor version. Leave it to soak for a good 10 mins then blot the excess with kitchen roll and then I give it a steam mop or whatever you'd normally do. You can alternatively use a weakish solution of biological laundry detergent but rinse carefully and don't overwet.

I think perhapd you were asking a slightly different question, but if you get the right chemical to break down the wee, you end up not having to scrub on hands and knees.

Thanks. I was asking if there is an easy way to clean wooden floors thoroughly. I find normal mood don't do a great job. I have the enzyme stuff. Maybe I need just to post - what is the best way to clean a wooden floor! I think I complicated my question!
