Has anyone out there got one and how would you rate them? All comments very much appreciated

Don't have one now but have had in past. Loved it. Good quality and easy to fit (so dh told me!)

peegeeweegee · 09/03/2007 09:24

I asked this message on here a few weeks ago and got positive responses. In addition, two of my friends have an Ikea kitchen and are very pleased with them.

We are hoping to replace our old kitchen around May/June and will be getting an Ikea kitchen which dh will fit himself.

Just out of nosiness - which Ikea kitchen are you going for??

Piffle · 09/03/2007 09:26

excellent
no qualms about recommending them

munchie · 09/03/2007 09:32

We have just bought an ikea kitchen and so far I've been really impressed.

hana · 09/03/2007 09:35

same. we put one in 3 years ago and is still great
their delivery/ordering system however is dire, we had lots of headaches and wasted time dealing with that end of it - but actual kitchen has been fine

Gizmo · 09/03/2007 09:41

I've just bought a second one after a happy experience with the first. They last well, look good and and are fairly straightforward to buy.

Two points to bear in mind - they make my saintly builder moan like crazy because the backs of the units fit flush with the walls and there are no voids to hide pipes in. So either you run the pipes at floor level or your DH/builder/kitchen fitter has to cut holes to allow the pipes to run through the cupboards.

Other thing that didn't impress me much was that I ordered kitchen in mid Jan and was told I'd be called to arrange a date for delivery beginning of February, with a likely delivery date of 14th Feb. When they did call, they put the delivery date back by two weeks - to the 28th - which after 5 months of grotty renovation hell cooking on two rings and a microwave, made me flip my lid a bit.

But it's here now, and it's luuuuuurvverrlly - luuuuurrrrve my new kitchen

peegeeweegee · 09/03/2007 12:59

Interesting what you say about delivery. Dh has access to a van from work - maybe we should just go and collect our kitchen in person??

elliott · 09/03/2007 13:02

We had ours 8 years ago and it is very robust.

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 13:02

a few of my cupborads show signs of wear

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 13:03

you need a wide rhtna av worktop too

dizzydo · 09/03/2007 14:05

ooh thank you for the replies. Peegee we are thinking of going for the white Adel shaker style but will get different handles. Also IKEA now do granite so we will have a black granite worktop. What is the problem with the width of the worktop Cod? Are IKEA's units not standard size. Also be interested to know how long you have had yours and where the "wear" is.
Thanks everyone, most of the reports I have had from friends and colleagues also rate them very highly.

On the delivery front has anyone used their full delivery service, that is the one we were going to opt for, just wondered if it comes complete or with half of it missing.

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 17:56

we have white adel wiht plsitc top
the cupboards are deeper than english ones so make sure oyur worktop is too

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 17:56

wear is on a couple of the tops
make sure they get you the placitc sleeve thign the plinkth sits in too

CODalmighty · 09/03/2007 17:57

allof ourse delievred a week laet btu allt here

KTeePee · 10/03/2007 08:09

We have recently ordered the cream Adel. They have already phoned to arrange delivery (earlier than they said they would) and I was able to delay the delivery by a couple of weeks so the units don't arrive too far in advance of the builder being ready - hopefully this will mean nothing will be missing from the order.....

Must look into that "plastic sleeve thing" for the plinth Cod - don't think it is on the order - can you explain the significance?

peegee - the advantage of getting Ikea to deliver is they are responsible for redelivering anything missing - if you go with a van you may need to go back several times if things are out of stock....

CODalmighty · 10/03/2007 20:11

ok the thing that goes that covers the whole under the cupboards - is tatt he pinth?
the kick board hting?

so that no crumbs go under that most peopels lithcens if you lok have a plastic strip that goes betweent he bottom of that and the floor

peegeeweegee · 10/03/2007 21:45

Ah, thanks for that Cod - I know what you mean!

We are planning on getting the Abstrakt white doors with solid Oak worktops.
Will make sure I also get my plinth-anticrumbs-strip.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 10/03/2007 21:50

oooh i was looking at white adel....we are definitely getting ours from ikea though.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 10/03/2007 22:12

I was looking at the Adel, too. I notice in the catalogue that it is described as 'yellow', but it looks more cream to me. Does anyone have one in this colour, and what does it really look like? Also, what type of worktops did you get to go with it. I like the wooden ones, but was also considering a shiny black one that looks a bit granite-y (but far less expensive!)

hugeheadofhair · 11/03/2007 00:29

We've got the cream/yellow Adel, and the colour is as good as the same as Dulux Buttermilk or Ivory. The one thing that we didn't reckon on was that the cabinets go all the way (the full 60cm) to the back, so no space to hide pipes. Gives you bigger cabinets though.
Worth getting the soft closures, gives a nice quality feel to the kitchen, instead of cheap and cheerful.
Delivery was fine.

Thanks for explaining about the plinth thing cod - I will have a look for it when i go back to buy the handles and other bits and pieces. Didn't have time to pick them uip when we went in to oder the units - you would not believe how many people were queuing up to buy kitchens at 10.30 pm!

maisym · 12/03/2007 08:24

Have an ikea kitchen - lovely. Had it delivered & built. Delivered on one day & built the next week.

Before delivered had a call that it would be postponed by 2 months!! as one part of a work top wasn't available. I cancelled that from the order so it could be delivered & built on time & got the worktop myself from the ikea shop! It was installed with the rest of the kitchen.

CODalmighty · 12/03/2007 08:26

Thank you everyone for all your input to this thread. We are definitely going to go IKEA. Cod thanks for the info re the plastic strip didnt know anything about that so will ensure we order it. Still not sure re the worktop thing whether IKEA's worktops are wider than average and best to buy those?
