is this a good idea? I've seen that John Lewis sells some sort of bracket things to fix the dryer on to the washing machine but i'm a bit worried the vibrations would make the whole thing fall over. anyone know? can't believe my life has come to this ...

Our dryer has been on top of our washing machine for 2 years withour a bracket and very happy thank you very much.

have stacked mine with a miele bracket. Works perfectly. The bracket is there to stop them toppling over. Make sure you get the right brackett and it will work fine

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 21:32

don't Miele or someone do ones specially designed to stack? [rummages] thus ...
Not sure I'd stack ones that weren't designed to do it...

We had ours properly stacked, with a kit, for several years, but upstairs on a sloping wooden floor and it was a bit scary sometimes

Now we have a shelf across the top of the washer and the dryer stands on that. Much more secure.

Ours is stacked without a bracket and has been for years without problem. There's a fridge to one side and a wall about 8 inches to the other, so it doesn't have much room to move if it wanted to. Don't leave stuff on top of the dryer near the edge though - this does sometimes fall off!

And they don't have to be the same brand, and you can change them as and when without nightmares.

olatt · 07/03/2007 21:35

do they have to be special stacking ones? don't want to buy new if we can help it. lovely! i love mumsnet. what did people do before?!

ooh I was going to post about this too - am moving washing machine into downstairs bathroom and hoping to put the dryer on top too. They might have to go in a cupboard anyway because of being electrical things in a bathroom....

google 'stacking kit' and you will find some. About £30 - £60 for peace of mind
