How can I make a top smaller? Can I shrink it in the wash?

Its 100% viscose.
Was thinking of doing it on a high wash but just a bit concerned about losing the colour.

Any suggestions?

tumble dry it on high?

hi Nbg...

i'm pretty sure if you wash it on hot, it will shrink to nothing...

is kinda slinky material...if you get what i mean

skirmish · 07/03/2007 11:25

sorry...thats supposed to read 'is it a kinda slinky material' like jersey? cos i find that when you wash it, it shrinks up, and then when it dries it gets bigger, but never as big as it once was (or maybe that's my washing skills )

Nbg · 07/03/2007 11:28

Yes it is Skirmish!
But like lycra ishy but slinky.
I love the top but its really baggy and it should be slightly fitted.

I've already tumble dried it and its made no difference.

BTW, sling is winging its way to you!

cool thx ...

i would have thought tumble drying would have made it shrink...so can't imagine washing on hot cycle would shrink it if that didn't work. Depends how much you like it to want to talk the risk if it gets ruined!

Is there anyways you could take it in?

skirmish · 07/03/2007 11:31

talk= take...

brain dead today

Nbg · 07/03/2007 11:32

I dont think so. Not with my sewing skills anyway lol

Its a dark navy and has a deep v neck with buttons and a collar. A bit like a polo neck tshirt.

i wouldn't have thought a hot wash would take too much of the colour out...esp if it's a decent top (even primark hold their colour quite well!), and you only do it once...what do the washing instructions say to wash it on?

Nbg · 07/03/2007 11:37

wash on 40, iron and then has a P in a circle. Never seen that on a wash label before.

OP posts:

the p in the circle is for dry-cleaning (so the cleaners know which products to use)

I'd probably start washing it on 50deg, see if that made a difference, then try it on 60deg etc etc, but bear in mind that it's often the spin that can shrink delicate things too

Nbg · 07/03/2007 11:45

right will give it a go.
thanks!
