I live in a really old, really cold house (no double glazing, no insulation etc.) and we are having a serious problem with condensation and mildew in our bathroom. It is worst behind the toilet cistern as the bathroom is downstairs and the toilet is against an outside wall. It is disgusting and everytime I clean it is just runs down the wall in big black streaks! I can't get rid of it! Is there anything I can put on it to get rid of it for good? Or is it a case of waiting til it gets warmer and taking the whole thing off and giving it a good clean? Sorry for the long post, but this is really annoying me and I'm sure it's not healthy!

I have had a problem with mild mold in our bathroom along the shower door. I made up a very mild solution of bleach and water in a spray bottle. I sprayed it on the mold and it disappeared after a time. I also tried it on some mold build up around my windows and it worked as well.

Might be worth a shot...

The bleach solution will work as long as you apply it every day for a couple of weeks. I've used Detox Mould & Mildew cleaner which you spray on leave scrub a bit then rinse and it gets rid of it straight away. I use that about once a month and it seems to keep it at bay. it is quite abrasive though so you can't use it on all materials.

I had this problem around our windows. I tried various products but have found this to be the best one so far.

Thanks for the tips! I shall be getting some of that Lakeland stuff esp as it says it can be used on painted surfaces. I've taken most of the paint off the wall with the scrubbing!!

The dettox mould killer in the green bottle is very good. The main thing is to stop the mould coming back. Always have the heating on in the bathroom, and always open the window a bit when you bath/shower. That will stop it building up again

Sorry to hijack the thread - I have found some mildew on my net curtains. Really loathed to try a bleach solution on them as they're off-white (sort of cream). Using ACE and such like in the past have weakened the net material.

Any ideas?

PS. we too use the Dettox M&M, which I found took a while to shift what was there, but definitely better at keeping at bay
