Silicone Bakeware - opinions wanted

Has anyone tried that flexible rubbery silicone bakeware, bun tins etc ? Is it really completely non-stick and indestuctible? Can you cook yorkshire puddings in it and will they come out easily after? Thank you!

not sure about yorkies, but I got a heart shaped one for valentines, and was impressed. You do have to remember to put them on a tray tho, not fill them and then spill half of it trying to get it in the oven.

Yes they are excellent. You can often find them in TKMaxx.

Thanks. Anyone else?

Yes fab I have some delmare bits an its brilliant

Can I just ask, I'm no expert but I believe that the secret to good yorkshires is that you have loads of oil pre-heated in the baking tray before you put the batter in. Does that not stop it sticking?

McDreamy · 06/03/2007 20:42

Demarle even

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 20:43

the oil is what makes them rise isn't it?

I can't see why you couldn't do that in silicon though.

Troutpout · 06/03/2007 20:44

yes Carmenere...that's right.
It needs to be really hot too...and when you put the batter in, it comes up and sort of laps the edges of the batter.

I do use oil, and a very expensive tin, but they still stick and I HATE washing it up after !

I have a silicone muffin tray and it works very well. I have to let the muffins cool a bit before I turn them out otherwise then tend to crumble, but I think that's more to do with the texture of the muffins than with them sticking. Yorkshire puds are a much more solid texture so I imagine they would be no trouble to get out.

Kelly1978 · 06/03/2007 21:40

I've seen those muffin trays, I assumed you still used papers with them? Am I wrong?

KTeePee · 07/03/2007 13:30

Kelly, I don't use papers with mine and as Bran said, providing you let them cool down first, they come out ok

tubismybub · 07/03/2007 13:32

prefer stoneware as it developes a natural non stick coating so no need for any oil or preheating when making yorkshire puddings
