To be honest we haven't had a washing line for around 3 years and so everything is tumble dried!!!

NomDePlume · 06/03/2007 12:25

do you have an indoor drier ? You know, a clothes horse thing ?

The tarmac smell would put me off hanging them outside, but I don't like tumble driers so I'd dry them indoors.

wurlywurly · 06/03/2007 12:42

its towels mainly so dont really want to put them on the airer.

MrsBadger · 06/03/2007 12:43

why can't you put towels on an airer? [boggle]
I do it all the time as don't have a dryer.

NomDePlume · 06/03/2007 12:45

me too, or on a radiator.

wurlywurly · 06/03/2007 12:49

they always seem to go hard when i dry them inside, what am i doing wrong??

I have no idea !

I shake mine out once they come out of the machine before transferring to a radiator, they are always fine. I do spin them so that they are almost dry though, maybe that helps?

ludaloo · 06/03/2007 13:04

I'd tumble dry them, especially as they are towels.

MrsBadger · 06/03/2007 13:08

It's the shaking that does it - outside the wind moves them about so they don't get stiff. Good shake before putting them on the airer, good shake afterwards.

lol at myself for clicking on this thread

I love outside-dried washing, also don't have a washer

NormaSnorks · 06/03/2007 13:21

Heard a radio programme yesterday where a couple were talking about 'going green' - one thing they did was stop using their tumble drier, and they reckoned their electricity bill fell by about 23%

wurlywurly · 06/03/2007 14:13

if i can i do hang it outside then finish it off in the drier (if its still damp)

MamaG · 06/03/2007 15:02

wurly have you been to dentist yet?

nh101 · 06/03/2007 15:14

How long does it take for things to dry outside? My MIL dries everything outside and I don't get it cos even in summer my clothes always end up getting rained on if I hang them outside and then they are out for days till they are dry!

MrsBadger · 06/03/2007 15:19

On nice days in summer I hang out laundry at 7am before breakfast and get it in at 4pm when I get home, although usually it's dry by lunchtime.

I do watch the weather forecast though and don't hang it out if there's a chance of rain. Certainly never leave things hanging out overnight - if it's rained while I've been out I get it in and hang it on airers and it's dry by the morning.

Bozza · 06/03/2007 15:26

That is how I do it too MrsB on the days I work.

twoisenoughmum · 06/03/2007 23:09

Wurly - if you really can't bear crunchy towels: put them on the airer inside. Give them 10 mins in the drier (on high heat with a tumble drier sheet) when they are almost dry. Softens them up a treat.

I know its none of my goddam business but I'm feeling a bit feisty tonight - please, everyone, do not dry things straight from the washing machine into the drier. Think of the environment if you don't care about your own electricity bills. If you don't mind. Thank you. Peace and love.

Bozza · 07/03/2007 08:46

I have done one load in the dryer since Boxing Day when I dried my only big table cloth that DD managed to spill a cup of tea over when we were expecting lots of guests. That load was on Sunday and was because we had no washing machine for 10 days so when the new one came were desperate to get back on top of things. But that was 1 load out of the 7 that we did on Sunday/Monday. The dryer is in the garage and we are seriously thinking of getting rid of it in order to free up more space for the kids bikes.

satinshoes · 07/03/2007 11:47

i agree with twoisenoughmum. i dry everything on the airer and then put towels and bedding in the t/d just before they are totally dry to fluff them up
