Smelly kitchen sink

Just a bit of a "whiff" coming from the kitchen sink. We are very careful about what goes down it due to antiquated and temperamental drains ,but obviously some food bits will find their way down there. Have never noticed this smell before, so just wondered if there were any recommendations as to what to put down to deal with smell/get rid of any small food particles that have got stuck? I tried neat bleach, but made no difference. I don't think I really expected it to, but it is all I have to hand. Absolutely no indication of a blockage, water draining fine, it's just a lingering odour that is slightly off putting!
