I need inspiration!
The house is a tip and it feels like a neverending struggle to just keep up with the tidying, never mind wiping Lenor on the radiators and cleaning the dishwasher with vinegar Shock
So when do you do your cleaning?
Do you do little and often, or a weekend blitz?
And how do you split tasks amongst your household?
Help me MN!

God this is depressing.

Regime change is needed! I am sorry I don't do much housework I am never motivated enough to start. OH has just cleaned the kitchen though, top of the cupboards and all that, cleaned out the minging fridge, mopped. I am a lazy totally lazy cow.

But in my feeble defence I have bad vertigo at the moment, so doing anything other than reading and posting on here sends me into a spin!

I will try and do better, when I feel a bit better. So will be watching with interest.

I've made my chart like Napqueen's and surprisingly DH has willingly accepted it.
He cleaned the fridge!
And I have done the oven and unblocked the drain
Now need a bath to recover.

Bravo!

I am notoriously messy. My new mantra is "don't put it down, put it away" and it's been working quite well so far.

Sunnysidegold · 12/03/2017 08:26

Oh and I love the poster's idea about taking on something from a loved one who had passed away.what a lovely way to remember them and to enrich your life!

Greenvalleymama · 12/03/2017 12:07

I have a small list of daily stuff (wiping kitchen surfaces, sinks, toilet seats etc, ten minute pick-up downstairs, running the diswasher) and then every day (excluding the weekend) focuses on doing a more thorough clean of one room (Mon-kitchen, Tuesday- bathrooms, Wed-living room, Thurs-hall and landing, Fri-bedrooms).
I do extra hoover/ toilet clean etc where necessary.
It seems to work well, the house stays in a reasonable state and it doesn't feel like I'm spending my life cleaning!
I can post the full list of jobs if you'd like to see? I put it together so that the kids could help.

therealmrsjolly · 13/03/2017 13:43

Yes please Greenvalleymama Sounds great, especially the bit about the kids helping!! Smile

wizzywig · 13/03/2017 13:48

Mmm i can feel a chart coming on. With stickers and stuff

xStefx · 13/03/2017 13:52

My cleaning regime is "oh shit that looks dirty" and then clean it

I do hoover and clean the kitchen worktops everyday and try to do a load of washing but everything else is sort of as and when.

Greenvalleymama · 13/03/2017 16:48

It's not as pretty as the BuJo version but it works for us!

Love these. I am taking notes.

I just finished mat leave so we are having to become super organised. We started with meal planning. Think cleaning rota is next...

geordiedench · 13/03/2017 17:01

I do laundry every day, clean the kitchen every day and clean the loos every day.
Bathroom, hoovering, mopping and dusting are done on a Saturday morning blitz when DC are tidying their rooms.
For tidying I use Flylady's 5 minute room rescue - just tidy like a demon for five minutes. It always works.

Greenvalleymama · 13/03/2017 18:58

One good tip I have is to always have an empty washing basket, and two carrier bags with you when you start a big tidy up.
I use the washing basket for stuff that lives elsewhere in the house, and the bags are for the bin and the charity shop.
I go around the room putting everything away, or into the basket or bags. Once the surfaces and floor are clear, I do the dusting/ hoovering etc, and then put everything away elsewhere, room by room.

Itsmytemporaryname · 13/03/2017 19:42

I do wonder if I will never get to the point where I'm on top of it because I'm just not prepared to put the hours in.
I think 1 hour per weekend is my absolute max on top of the constant background activity of the day to day chores such as laundry, tidying etc.

I don't think I could keep up with that list for example Greenvalley.

Watch some speed cleaning videos on YouTube! They have changed my life..my house has never been so clean. They gave me the kick up the arse that I definitely needed!

ChocolateSherberts2017 · 14/03/2017 03:44

I've got better at starting multiple household chores at the same time. So I'll
8am load washing machine
Fill sink & soak breakfast dishes
Spray kitchen & bathroom surfaces
8:30am school run
9:30am return home
Wash dishes & clean kitchen & bathroom
Vacuum
Hang out washing
Coffee break
Thrn concentrate on whatever project I'm working on atm

NightWanderer · 14/03/2017 03:59

I loved the unfuck your habitat book. It's aimed at busy, lazy people who hate housework and has loads of check lists and stuff.

Itsmytemporaryname · 14/03/2017 08:08

Speed cleaning videos? That sounds like something I could do
