Ironing board that folds in half - useless or useful ?

We need a new ironing board so I'm browsing through the argos website and spotted a board that folds in half making it half the height so much easier to store.

Has anyone got any experience of these, are they any good ? I can't help thinking that ironing over the folding bit in the middle will leave dodgy marks on clothing being ironed over that bit.

There's also a board with an attachment to make ironing the yoke of men's shirts easier.Has anyone tried this one ?

Jolly boring subject I know but anything that makes ironing easier or the board less of a storage problem would be useful.

What is this ironing of which you speak?

In truth my ironing board never gets put away but seems to rarely used. It's an odd state of affairs.

Bumping in the hope that there is a crowd of experienced launderers/ironers out there on a Monday

how do you store the ironng board at the moment? If you have somehwere to put it then how will a folding one help?
Mine lives behind the kitchen door and even if it was half the height it'd still live there...

Never had a sleeve board, never felt the need.

No experience of folding ones but I'd worry about making marks on clothes, too.

Can you store a normal one on the back of a door?

JackieNo · 05/03/2007 11:47

YOu could get a really small one or one you put on a table ?

That's our problem Mrs Badger, we don't really have any where to store it, it lives in the corner of the kitchen either leaning against the wall or more usually in its ready for action position as we seem to have a permanent ironing heap. I'm not convinced that seeing the ironing board hanging on the back of the kitchen door, albeit with a specila hanging gadget, wouldn't irritate me any less than seeing it leaning up the wall or standing around covered in the "to do" ironing pile.

The argos folding board would be less unsightly but I'm convinced the hinge area, even well padded, would lead to slight tell-tale marks on shirts etc.

Maybe I could buy one and then claim money back as "not fit for purpose" if it did indeed leave unsightly marks on stuff.

my MIL doesnt have an ironing board. She puts a towel on the worktop and irons on top of that.

Not sure i could do it but PIL never has creased shirts.
