Decluttering odd things - advice needed!

We're moving house at the end of this month and have started decluttering and cleaning and I have lots of stuff I have no idea what to do with.. For example,

Half empty cleaning stuff like kitchen spray that didn't work very well so I've stopped using, half a bottle of toilet duck that stains the toilets etc. I feel like chucking it in the bin half full is dangerous but tipping them down the sink is also bad. I've amassed around 10 half full bottles Blush What do people usually do?

And, paperwork - do I need to keep the paperwork for a car I sold over 10 years ago? A loan I've paid back in full years ago? Old council tax bills from a different house 10 years ago etc?

This is just the tip of a very cluttered iceberg, so I may be back for lots more advice!

Isn't there a collecting site for household chemicals, paints, oils etc. with your recycling services?

I can (have to, really) take this stuff to my local "collection centre". They take everything they don't regularily collect via the bins.

Ooh i didn't know that! I'm going to the recycling centre next week anyway so I'll take all that along and ask what they think. Thanks for the tip.

Shred or burn the papers, thereby reducing the chance of id theft.

Hope your move goes well.

You don't need that old paperwork op- no.

I just keep the essentials.

Half empty bottles of cleaning stuff - I would be tempted to use them up now - adding the cleaning product to hot water and a scoop of washing powder for a final deep clean.

wobblywonderwoman · 05/03/2017 11:02

Or could you put an shout out on a local Facebook site about the cleaning products if you feel too guilty to chuck? Some homes would be glad of them I imagine.

Give the cleaning stuff away on Freecycle? My Mum sometimes says that things don't work properly/very well and I find them fine.

Burn all unwanted paperwork. We left the cleaning products under the sink in our scrupulously clean house. Grin

Thanks again! The local recycling centre took things like bottles with dregs of de-icer, washer fluid and anything labelled "dangerous". Inspired idea about leaving some cleaning stuff behind, helpful and lazy all at the same time Grin

I would suggest not leaving the cleaning stuff behind - put it on freecycle. BTW if you have any half-used tins of paint they also go quickly on freecycle, given how pricey the stuff is now.

the paperwork needs to be burned or shredded.
