Massive declutter - desperately need to share!

I am a proper hoarder. I hold into things just in case, all the time. It's not stuff like newspapers or containers or random stuff like that. More like books, toys, clothes etc.

I have wanted to live more minimally for ages. I would like more clear space and to actually see what we have, and not just see stuff everywhere.

I have made a start. I am so pleased. I've bought those huge plastic storage tubs with lids, and I've packed up seven massive ones, and bagged up loads of clothes. Ive put missing parts of toys together, and mDe sure that sets are complete. Ive also chucked loads. It has taken two of us about 6 hours. My friend has come to collect it (she couldn't get it all in the car) and she is going to sell it for me. Done of the stuff is still in cellophane or still has tags on, brand new. We are going 50-50 on the proceeds.

So I've had a clear out and I'm going to make some cash. I am so happy! And I'm inspired to keep going. It's taken me ages to start but now i feel that I can keep going. My storage room/shed now has less than half what it used to have in there and is properly organised.

Well done OP!
I hope to have a bit of energy later to do a quick stint inspired by your example.

I've been doing this too. Made £2000 selling stuff on ebay in the last year. Mainly clothes, toys, books, furniture, anything bought on impulse...

Good for you op! Nothing feels as good. I had a huge clearout in 2013 and have never really let the stuff creep back in. I have saved lots of money as I am so careful what I let into the house. Good for you!

Thanks for the support and encouragement. I feel so much better, it's incredible how positive I feel. It's made such a big difference, all for spending six hours. It was a hard going six hours but it's made more if a difference than I thought six hours ever would, if you know what I mean.

I have a lot left to do.

The attic, all of my clothes, shoes, accessories etc.

£2000 profit is incredible! Wow.

I need to stop bringing so much into my home and then I won't be able to let it build it again.

Have you ever done a car boot sale? I have so much, I can't it into my car, but I'm wondering if I could do it in stages. What do you display your wares on? And do you put prices on things or just have a rough idea what you would accept? How much do you think people make on average for clothes, books, accessories etc? I am wondering if it is worth it given how long I'd spend preparing.

I 've found the trick with car boots is to take lots and sell it cheap rather than holding out for more money, especially if you want to get rid of stuff. I use a pasting table and take a big plastic groundsheet too, toys in laundry baskets, clothes on a clothing rail. I did a few last year and made quite a lot, but most of my items were sold for £1 or under.
If you have a problem with hoarding though, it might be beneficial to just get it out of the house and only try to sell the more valuable items.
I have found gumtree excellent when giving things away for free, majority of the things I've 'sold' have gone with a few days. Usually it's furniture or baby items that aren't in excellent condition so a hassle to remove or try to sell, offer them for free and buyer collects.
