duvet that doesn't need a cover

Hey Mums, I have been working on producing a duvet that doesn't need a cover. It has a microfibre filling and Egyptian cotton outer and you just put the whole thing in the washing machine, dry it (either hang it up or tumble it), and then put it straight back on the bed.

I am so passionate about my product that I am now blind to any problems. Does anyone have any obvious things that they think could be a drawback please?

And also, are there any bloggers that you follow that you think would be good for me to approach for getting it out there? I am a mum, but with grown up boys so a bit out of touch with the younger generation.

Thanks everyone - any advice gratefully received.

I would consider it for kids but not for our own use as even a 4.5 tog king size duvet doesn't wash properly in our large capacity (9kg) machine. I would think junior bed size ones (mattress size 140x70 cm so duvet a bit shorter and wider maybe 120 x 100) might be quite popular as they would wash easily. Junior beds are suitable up to about age 6 or 7 so you could do a range of nursery bedding.

It sounds like you're swimming against the current here op, but I like the idea. I hate changing duvet covers, especially my super king size as I always end up with back-ache.

OP, you say you haven't settled on a price, but you are taking advance orders on FB? How is that working, are people ordering without knowing the end price?

I do agree the white does look like a naked duvet, and I'm disappointed there's no hunter green colour! But I like the neutrals you have.

Will you be doing matching pillowcases? I like the bright colours on your FB page but agree the white one looks a bit like a duvet. Also can't see prices. I assume they meet UK regulations for fire safety?

Hi NorfolkingTime - those orders are from my prototype tester mums..who are friends of mine, who will be buy them anyway...So, yes, buying without knowing the final price! They are boarding school mums who are more attracted to the benefits than the price.

The one on the FB site is not actually white. It is duck egg blue, with a white border. The pure white ones (which my first prototypes were) do look exactly like duvets without covers but the coloured ones don't - which is why I am going to market with mainly colours. Pure white will be available but with a disclaimer - to be aware that it may look naked!

Pillowcases will be available too. To start with, they will be simple design ones but I am going to be making them with the filling in too, so they act like a pillowcase AND a protector.

AppleandBlackberry - they have been lab tested to fulfil all rules and regs that relate to that product. But fire and safety is not one I need to do. Strangely, there are few regs for this product - and even tog testing is not reg, it is more of a customer satisfaction thing.

Oh ok, maybe I was thinking of mattresses with fire retardant regs. I'm definitely interested when you do start production.

Forgive me for saying so, but I can't help but feel that with all these 'casual' mentions of Oligarchs, trips to Milan and boarding schools, this product is probably aimed at a higher price market that I'm looking for.

I'd love to be able to think purely of the benefits when buying a product rather than the price, but most of us have a budget to stick to!

Good point Norfolking. Oligarchs are a bit thin on the ground in my bedroom.
