how do you get rid of weevils in the cupboard

I believe they're weevils little black bugs and they get into everything.

throw away every foodstuff they are in. also open tea bags, herbs, etc. Then disinfect the cupboard thoroughly. keep flour, sugar etc in jars that seal. Are they just in one cupboard?

anonymice has the right idea- I've had weevils and this works. They come into the house in bags of flour- basically all flour has their eggs so if flour is left in the cupboard for ages in an open packet weevils will hatch and roam.

Could they be flour mites? I've had problems with them, as the name suggests they live mostly in flour but will get into other things. The only way I've found to get rid of them permanently is to keep my flour in the fridge, once that has gone from the cupboards they don't seem to be able to thrive on other stuff.

yes they are in the cupboard and sometimes on the kitchen sides. yeah I have put flour into Mason jars now but I still see them . maybe I need to clean the cupboard again .

I tried mason jars for my flour, but the sodding things are so tiny they could get past the seal. Try keeping your flour in the fridge for a few weeks and see if it helps.

They will eat all kinds of things- check all your cupboards and food packets and use hot water and bleach to clean all cupboards thoroughly

Freeze the flour for a week. It won't damage the flour, you can use it straight from the freezer if needed, and will kill all weevils and eggs.
Bin anything you think is infected.
Scrub (bleach if you have the stuff) the cupboard. Leave empty for a week if you possibly can.

They come in flour and pasta and like anything dry. They're not harmful, just aesthetically unpleasant. Especially on your plate! You can freeze your dry goods for a few days to kill the eggs and stop them hatching out.

As pp have said, chuck out anything that seems to be affected, then empty cupboards and wipe remaining items and inside of cupboards with diluted bleach. I freeze any new packs of flour/icing sugar and keep all paper packed items tied up in a plastic freezer bag, or transfer into a Kilmer jar. Haven't had any problems since I started doing this.

Meant to say, freeze for 24 hours (or until I remember to get them out)

I have thrown out and dettox sprayed the cupboard more than once but the buggers have come back. I haven't had a problem yet since I started storing all the flour in ziplock bags.

yep, it's all about airtight jars or bags. Yeuch.

oh yak - weevils are in all flour and pasta? that's totally gross. I am going to clear out the dried goods cupboard tonight.

I don't think so!!! I mean if they are then there's no pasta or flour you can buy that's safe. I got weevils once and once only and that was a dodgy batch of flour in Asda. I have only seen them a few times. If you can't see them they aren't there!
