Why is an upstairs washing machine not a thing?!

Folllowing on from the 2 dishwashers/washing machines thread..

Just the title really. I've always wanted my washing machine upstairs. An old style airing cupboard, with no need for water tanks these days, makes the perfect space for a separate washer and dryer.

Think about...where does all the dirty washing come from?! I don't mind taking the odd tea towel and dish cloth upstairs. You could train the children to put clothes straight in! It could replace the laundry basket!!! OMG the possibilities are endless.

Rich people could of course have an entire laundry room upstairs with ironing board and hanging rails...

I have an airing cupboard next to a 'spare' loo that is where I send DH when he needs time out. He gets expelled for expelling too much and must expel before returning to the family. It's a separate loo with no sink so completely useless as we also have a full bathroom with loo and sink.

Spare loo has a waste pipe, window and all of the water pipes that go up to our loft bedroom. Plus airing cupboard next door. High ceilings mean there is actually room for one of those clothes airers that lift up.

Why is an upstairs washing machine not a thing?!

Hmm John Lewis eh? Prepared to buy a new washer to get it up there!! I could have one up and one down...

I put an offer in on a house based on the fact it had an upstairs utility room with washer and dryer. You're right OP, possibilities are endless!
Didn't buy house due to subsidence but I often think of it

Our washing machine is upstairs (granted, we're in a 1st floor flat...) how on earth could it be "not allowed" -how would people in flats wash their clothes?! we moved our machine from above our downstairs neighbour's kitchen to the bathroom as the spin cycle knocked things over in both our kitchens (and so we could get a dishwasher).

We can only dry stuff outside in summer anyway as our garden is shady so we have an indoor airer and a dehumidifier.

Washing machines are really heavy aren't they? Problem getting them up the stairs and noise when it's going.

Having said that, lots of people on that there continent seem to have their washing machines In the bathroom don't they?

I've told dn (architect) that we need this.

It is very definitely a thing in the US. I am very jealous of fil's laundry room. Every house he has lived in has had one. Massive washer and drier. They tumble everything.

My washer and dryer are upstairs. Sheilas maid above them and airing cupboard next to them.
I love it.

I'd love that tbh. In my country the washing mashine if not in it's own laundry room is in the spare bathroom, never anywhere near the kitchen. Which it makes much more sense as dirty pants stuff are kept away from main traffic and stuff can be hanged in there without being in the way.
When the weather allows it is still better to walk down with the laundry and then hide it away again once dry. It's not that many months that one can dry outside here anyway.

When I did up my kitchen and bathroom I moved my washing machine upstairs. Means I don't hear the noise when in the kitchen and freed up a whole cupboard space. I love it!
