Solution for white mark on hardwood from steamer

Argh I left my vax steamer on while sitting on my hardwood floor and it's left this white mark. I've checked the internet and it's suggested using an iron to get it out (!) or vinegar then olive oil.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Scared to do anything unless it's proven to work - I don't want to make it worse.

I know the final option is sanding and restaining (it's pine stained dark) but hoping thats the last resort.

Rub it with a walnut half?

I've used an iron to get heat marks out of lacquered wooden furniture - it does work. Needs to be just hot enough that you can still hold your hand against the soleplate of the iron and put a folded cotton pillowcases or cloth of some sort between the iron and the floor.
