Which coffee machine?

It's my birthday soon and I want to buy myself a coffee machine. There are so many available, can anyone suggest a good one? I'd like to make lattes, cappuccinos etc.

I've got a Nescafe coffee machine and it's fantastic. Makes really nice lattes and cappucinos and it's a reasonable price as well.

We have a DeLonghi Nespresso with a milk frother attached - makes lovely lattes etc according to my husband (I drink black coffee!). Nespresso coffee is excellent.

Do you want a pod system one or bean to cup?

We have a Delonghi bean to cup which is incredible (and expensive) and was easy to clean (a must for us.) My friend has a Nespresso but they only drink 1 or 2 coffees a day so a pod system works well for them in terms of binning the pods.

We have a Tassimo. Easy to use, lovely coffee and the pods are easily available - even the little Tesco Express nearby sell a range of them.

I started off with a tassimo but I've got a burr grinder plus an espresso pump machine now.

Fresh ground coffee is the business.

I have a De’Longhi EC680 Dedica Pump Espresso Coffee Machine which I love. It uses ground coffee or a generic coffee bag thingy. Makes great coffee and has the steam frother for milk.

Depends how much you drink - a pod machine is c£70, whilst a bean to cup machine is c£400.
Capsules are about 30p, vs 3p for a bean to cup.
Bean to cup allows any bean, whilst capsules have some limitations.

Cost difference made up in a year if you drink four cups a day.

Also pods are easier if different people like different coffee (ie one drinks decaffinated etc)

I've got a Nescafe De'Longhi and it's fantastic, makes really great tasting coffee.

Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup is what we have and it's amazing! We've had it for years and it hasn't broken once, and produces consistently brilliant coffee.

I don't like pods, so it had to be bean to cup, but I know there are loads of pod fans out there. But if you like the idea of making proper coffee from beans without any refinement, a bean to cup machine is what you want and the Delonghi Magnifica is bloody briliant.

I would agree with Riverside although needs regular decalcification if you live in a hard water area.
